Hello
I've been experiencing different gynae changes since about September/October and I'm starting to panic that something serious is wrong.
Sorry if the following is too much information but please, if you don't mind reading on, can anyone give me any clue as to what might be going on and if I do have grounds to be seriously concerned:

For context I'm 35 and have had two kids. Since September I've:

  • had more discharge than usual every month
  • had thrush once a month which I've self treated with Canesten
  • had a UTI in january (so last month) which went away with antibiotics
  • have started to experience mid-cycle pain, I think it is around ovulation but I'm not sure. This is completely new for me, I've never had it before. it wears off after a few days so I have a few days pain free until the usual run up to period niggles start
  • Have pink discharge around ovulation (i think it's around ovulation anyway) for the past three months in a row

So far the GP has treated my UTI. They have sent a swab off which came back normal. I have requested an early smear (my next one is due in Jan 2026 my last one was Jan 2023 and was normal) but the GP is only willing to bring it early if I have a sexual health screen which I did this week. Haven't had the results back yet but 99.9999999% they'll be clear as my husband and I are happy (as you can be with two feral kids ha).

Can anyone put my mind at rest at all or is the above cause for concern?
I suffer really badly with ocd and health anxiety so I feel very distressed at the moment. I am probably going to pay for a private smear test.

Thank you for reading

Sorry that you're worried. It sounds like you've had some initial tests which have come back fine.

Do you track your cycle? A lot of what you describe sounds like normal ovulation to me? The increased discharge and discomfort is quite normal for ovulation.

Thanks for your reply.
I don’t track my cycle but it’s a good idea I will keep a diary for a couple of months. It’s just that all these symptoms are new for me, that’s also what is concerning me. I’ve never had ovulation pain in the past or at least not this sore where it feels like period pain

Hormonal mate.

I have OCD and health anxiety so I'm not dismissing what you're experiencing, but from the age of about 34, I've had all these symptoms apart from just the one UTI. IM 38 now.

Track your cycles for a few months and you'll probably notice the mid cycle bleeding is around ovulation. Unfortunately, you just dry out a bit which makes thrush more frequent and the discharge is just your fanny trying to compensate.

Get the private smear because it'll put your mind at rest, but pay close attention to your cycles. You'll probably see a pattern.

Completely agree @whatnooow . I'm also a member of the health anxiety club but it does sound very hormonal. Also agree re the private smear

Thanks for all your replies. GP has just called to say I’ve tested positive for bacterial vaginosis from a swab I gave in last week. So that means in the last 5 weeks I’ve had a UTI, BV and thrush. What is going on? I’m freaking out, what do I do now.
GP said no to bringing my smear forward (it’s due next Jan) because they said the lab would reject it for being early
