Unexplained bruising - blood test all clear

I’m 35, have two kids and experiencing what I (and the doc suspects may be peri symptoms for the past two years) had a blood test just before Christmas 2024 and all was clear apart from serretin which was slightly low but not surprising as I have super super heavy periods and testosterone which was almost zero.

I’m not on any meds or contraception.

referral to gynae for suspected peri symptoms

have another blood test in a few weeks and a repeat to check fsh levels, the bruising continues on my legs with no clear explanation as to why. Bruising only seems to be on my legs and usually on the inner thighs. I know I absolutely have not hurt myself.

my legs feel slightly achy but not painful, no redness or swelling.

pics attached of the worst ones, can anyone shed any light from their own experiences with this?

thanks!

Unexplained bruising was one of the things I had before being diagnosed with an under active thyroid

RosesAndHellebores · 25/02/2025 12:52

What blood tests have you had? I was very "under" 35 years ago and the GP ran a blood test and said it was fine. It was a test for anaemia. I became more "under" and saw a Dr privately who ran more tests. I had Graves disease.

Has your GP done a full blood count @user1497263391?

So sorry to hear you suffer with this, glad you were eventually able to get some answers. I had full blood count checked (normal) and thyroid function test (normal).

would one/both of these checks show up under/over active thyroid issues presumably?

Glad you were able to get some answers. I had a thyroid function test as part of my last bloods which came back normal, is that the test that initially checked your thyroid?

If thyroid function is normal it's unlikely to be that but do check your results against the published ranges.

@user1497263391 , yes I had thyroid function tests and had a high TSH level once I started on thyroxine the unexplained bruising mostly went away but it looks like they have checked this with you. My GP did say that if it kept happening I would need further blood testing but as it went away I don’t know what those tests would have been

Thanks for your comment, I’ll keep pushing. Glad you got to the bottom of it all ☺️

Perimenopause starting at 33? Seems incredibly early.
