2nd mirena coil fail

Hi.
I am on my 2nd coil and about to have it taken out as, for the 2nd time, its slipped down too low to be of any use.
This is 2 mirena coils In 1 year.
They are very expensive to get in again to have it fail again. I don't think I'll get a 3rd as I have no comfort in having sex. I'm absolutely petrified at this stage of getting pregnant

Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do?
Thanks.

Have you considered a contraceptive implant?

secretgirl · 23/02/2025 11:57

No I hadn't actually. Like implanon? I feel funny about having that under my skin. But maybe it is the way to go. I was thinking of the copper coil.

Thanks for the reply

I had a copper coil.
I had it removed after a month (the soonest they would take it out) due to a 17 day vvvvvvvvv heavy period and excruciating period pain.
I had it swapped for a mirena. The mirena fell out completely after 2 weeks. I literally felt something hard when I wiped after using the loo, put my hand down to have a feel, and came away with the coil.
I didn't bother again after that. Too much trouble.

My doctor tried to insert a coil and had to give up, as I had some scar tissue preventing it.

I ended up using the ring. You just put it in and forget about it, only changing it once a month I think (it's a while ago now, as I'm post menopause, so my memory is a bit hazy).

Thanks.
There's so much to think about. I'm a smoker too so it seems the ring isn't for me after reading about it!

What about either Depo injection or sayanna press?

secretgirl · 23/02/2025 21:01

No I hadn't thought of those at all. Thank you, will look into it. Definitely want something reliable
