Oral thrush - help!

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice. I have got oral thrush after antibiotics (white / grey furry tongue, red spots at the back) etc. I also have had a really blocked nose and nasal drip for the past week. I've tried to get something from the pharmacy but they have all said that the gel they usually offer is out of stock and will need a gp appointment (i've tried but will need to try after the weekend at 8am)!
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a natural remedy or anything I can try and buy?! Will try anything as I just feel very run down and not 100%!

Thank you so much :) xxx

Sorry if I've misunderstood but if the pharmacy would offer you a gel but can't because it's out of stock there could you try a different pharmacy to see if they have it in?

Hi @Panickingnowhelp sorry I should have explained that better! The gel they usually offer is out of stock and has been for months now they said. I did try 4/5 and they all said the same thing, they said they've not been given an update on whether it's discontinued or it will be coming back!

I had oral thrush after having antibiotics and an inhaler just before Christmas. When I spoke to the pharmacist she said the same thing about the medication being unavailable and to call 111 who got me a telephone appt with my GP. I was given a liquid to rinse my mouth 3 times a day and it fixed it. I also took Metatone tonic as I was run down

Daktarin gel is out of manufacturing but you can get Nystatin with a prescription. You can buy a Fluconazole 150mg capsule over the counter which will also work (although officially it’s meant to be 50mg per day for 2 weeks for oral thrush, but you can take the 150mg if you need to). I’m under 2 oral specialists for long term invasive oral thrush, I’m on Fluconazole 50mg long term and have nystatin every night. (I have complex autoimmune issues).

@Pigeonqueen I know this thread is old but I was just wondering if you could elaborate on the invasive thrush and what autoimmune issues you have? I'm struggling with oral and vaginal thrush but it feels like it might now even be affecting my eyes.

I have Addisons, lupus, Sjogrens, hypothyroidism, pituitary issues, asthma etc etc, all sorts. I’ve also had interstitial cystitis since age 14 and I was on daily long term antibiotics since then (cefalexin) I’m now 44 and I think it’s the combination of this and Sjogrens that’s caused the invasive thrush. I’ve had tongue biopsies as I have huge lesions of it that grow on the roof of my mouth and down the sides of my tongue. I was also diagnosed with lichen planus as a result of this. So a lot going on! I’ve managed to be able to stop the antibiotics after seeing a new urologist who put me on amitriptyline and Tramadol for the bladder issues. But the thrush remains and flares up regularly, causing stomach issues, oral issues and vaginal thrush. I take 50mg Fluconazole daily long term and nystatin every day. When it’s particularly awful I take a one off dose of 150mg Fluconazole and then go back to the 50mg.

@Pigeonqueen wow, that sounds like hard work! I have lichen planus and lichen sclerosus (which I suspect contributes to the uti's) but haven't been diagnosed with any other obvious autoimmune issues that would explain the oral thrush. I do also have menieres disease and possibly fibromyalgia/ME but not sure they'd contribute to oral thrush. I also had my first uti at 14 (I'm 41 now) and have struggled with them since so I've probably had antibiotics at least twice a year since then, which isn't great.
Off the back of this I think I'm going to push for more bloods from gp as I think there's something else going on. Apparently there's no fungal infection in my eyes thankfully but they are burning and sore so god knows what's up with them. I've got 3.5 days left of antibiotics so hopefully the uti will be gone after that and some of these other issues will settle.
