Itchy Breast

I have one itchy breast/nipple which has been ongoing for around 4 weeks now. I also have some intermittent tenderness between the armpit and side of my breast.

I've checked and can't feel anything untoward in the way of lumps/bumps, and can't see any physical changes but should I be worried?

Please go and get it checked. I'm not saying it's anything but I had Paget's disease of the nipple. The gp kept telling me it was eczema for four years because Paget's was too rare for me to have! Ask to be referred to the breast clinic 2 week path.

No lumps are a good sign but I'd go and see a DR just to be on the safe side as you've said it's been for a while now

I’ve had one itchy nipple for years, never occurred to me it could be anything serious! I don’t have a rash or any skin changes, it just itches sometimes but only the right one. Weird!

SlipperyLizard · 19/02/2025 22:05

I had something similar (both nipples but no tenderness), I went to doc who referred me to clinic on 2 week pathway. Had mammogram, all clear, they said it was probably eczema and said I could use my betnovate (I hadn’t as I didn’t think it was eczema & didn’t think it was suitable for nipples). I used the betnovate, itching went away, I felt like a fool, albeit one who was glad I got it checked out.

Please see your GP!

Thank you everyone, I'm going to book in to see the GP. It's just so difficult to get an appointment these days!

@marmiteloversunite can I ask if you had any other symptoms or just the itching? Was there any visible changes at all?

It started with just the itching and I wish I had gone back to the doctors more. I just thought I was being silly. After 3/4 years I had a very sore nipple which had discharge.

marmiteloversunite · 19/02/2025 22:29

Sorry don't mean to scare you but I wish I had taken it more seriously at the start.

Loupyloula98765 · 19/02/2025 22:30

@marmiteloversunite thank you for commenting and sharing your experience, I'm sorry this happened but glad they found out eventually!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

watchuswreckthemic · 19/02/2025 22:53

I've had 2 separate referrals to the breast clinic after seeing a GP, one was an issue like yours.
The GP and the clinic were both lovely and I never felt like i was wasting anyone's time despite needing no follow up.
Do the e consult and let the professionals help you.

As women we should never feel apologetic for seeking help/ advice. We’re already ignored enough. Please see your GP. They will take you seriously.

@Loupyloula98765
How did you get on at the doctors

Loupyloula98765 · 06/03/2025 16:18

@walking101 I'm a bit embarrassed to say I haven't been yet but your comment gave me a nudge and I've just booked an appointment, the earliest they could do was the end of this month so fingers crossed

Is it still itchy?
