Breast biopsy for tiny lump

Just looking for some reassurance really.
I went for a breast checkup through private medical as both my mum and auntie have had breast cancer in the past 10 years (both still with us thank god)
Anyway I saw the breast specialist who couldn’t feel anything but sent me for a scan anyway.
i was complaining of having some sharp shooting pains but in both breasts but then again I do suffer with health anxiety and have 3 kids under 5 so I can be quite stressed at times.
anyway during the scan they came across a very tiny lump (can’t remember the size )but couldn’t tell if it was just a gland because of how small it its but it was a little hard. So they took a couple of biopsies which was tricky to do because of it being so small.
They are not concerned and said they’d be surprised if it came back as anything and the specialist definitely thinks it’s benign!
has anyone else experienced this ?
am I over thinking it to much ? I have to wait 10 days for results and trying to push it to the back of my mind!

I had this and it turned out to be a harmless cyst. They told me some stats when I was there which were something like for every 20 biopsies, only one requires further treatment.

Good luck op.

@user1477249785 thank you , I’m hopeful thats all it is , they didn’t at all seem concerned so that gives me a little piece of mind :) however it does feel like I’ve now been punched in the boob after having the biopsy done lol

Ive had benign cysts before

worldwidetravel2017 · 14/02/2025 19:36

You could look to get private
Non invasive
Thermal chest imagery..

Costs around 300 gbp

worldwidetravel2017 · 14/02/2025 19:37

Do you have any conditions like pcos etc?

LizzieSiddal · 14/02/2025 19:43

The wait is awful. I’ve had biopsies taken from 3 lumps in the last 10 years. They’ve all come back negative thank goodness but the wait is torture.
Howetver if the consultant has said they think it’s fine, I’d be very reassured by that. Try to keep busy and you’ll get the results before you know it.

Jade313 · 14/02/2025 19:55

@LizzieSiddal gosh that must have been scary!
this is the first time for me so I was pretty worried I won’t lie but it was so tiny they could just about get a biopsy apparently
yes I’m keeping myself busy and trying not to think about it to much despite having health anxiety!

@worldwidetravel2017 I have IBS after seeing my gastroenterologist and am having to keep up with taking my iron tablets but no PCOS. I’ve had abdominal and transvaginal scans recently which were all clear.
i currently go through private, I refuse to go to my normal doctors to be honest!

Yes, I had a lot of breast pain in one side, and lumps, on a couple of occasions.
Got biopsies done and found an abscess.
Another time I had pain and a cyst after an infection..thankfully no biopsies that time as it went away itself. The biopsies were not nice.
Hopefully nothing serious, but great to get these things checked out early.

Jade313 · 14/02/2025 22:12

@LegallyBlende its weird because other then the slight shooting pains it’s been more of a poking feeling as appose to pain if that makes sense ? I can’t really explain it!
Never felt any lumps and neither did the specialist because it is so tiny so I’m guessing that’s a good thing maybe
yes the biopsy was not pleasant, my hands were sweating that much that they thought I might pass out but I think it was more nerves if anything!

In my experience they can tell very well from the scan but just need a biopsy to confirm. If they weren't pretty confident it was harmless they wouldn't have said that.

In my case they told me they were 99 % sure from the scans it was cancer and they were right.

Jade313 · 15/02/2025 11:43

@Boope sorry to hear of your diagnosis, I hope you’ve made a full recovery?
that’s good to know, I think I’m just over thinking it to much but unfortunately that’s what comes with health anxiety!

This was five years ago. Treated and full recovery. I only posted to reassure you that doctors rarely commit unless they are pretty certain.

Jade313 · 24/02/2025 19:16

Just to update all, they called with my biopsy results.
Good news , the lump is benign, it’s a very rare lump and I think they called it a Tubular adenoma (can’t be sure) but I will be going back in 6 months for a follow up scan and then hopefully be discharged then.
Mine is so small but they want to see if it grows as normally they would then remove them.
After all this time fearing the worst I can finally breath :)

So pleased it was good news for you OP. I found a lump in my armpit a couple of weeks ago and waiting for my appt at the breast clinic. Absolutely terrified, just the wait for the appt is a lot and yes if they take a biopsy it will be another 2 weeks I think. I'm absolutely terrified and also 36 weeks pregnant. Desperately hoping it's linked to hormones or boobs getting ready for feeding etc but the notes from the Dr were awful and the language he used makes it look like the worst. Doesn't think there's any chance of it being a cyst or infection due to how hard it is. So worried and can't keep my mind off it 😔

Jade313 · 01/03/2025 18:43

@IveGotALovelyBunchOfCoconutss sorry your going through that , it’s so scary not knowing !
It could well be due to you being pregnant , I remember getting a couple of small hardish lumps but was something to do with the breast milk (can’t remember what they called it)
But it’s always best to get these things checked out to be safe.
please keep us updated with the results x
