Rupture Ovarian Cyst - More Symptoms

Hi, on Friday I experienced a lot of pain and so much so that I was double over in pain, sweating, shaking and nearly being sick. I rang 111 and they advised me to go to the hospital but I had my kids till that afternoon so I said that if it got any worse I'd go to the hospital. It went down a bit over Saturday so I thought I was okay, Sunday morning I woke up again in bad pain so I took myself to A&E.

At first they thought appendicitis, but a CT ruled that out but they had seen fluid around my right ovary so they decided to refer me to gynaecology ward where they did an ultrasound and found a deflated ovarian cyst with fluid around it. They were giving me Tramadol for the pain as codeine wasn't helping at all, they discharged me with just codeine and told me that I might be in a little pain over the next few days but it shouldn't be bad anymore. Fast forward to about 3/4 hours ago, I've started in really bad pain again all across my lower stomach, I feel sick again cos of not being given anti sickness tablets and I just don't feel great. My bloods had come back fine at the hospital but I just don't feel like it should be hurting this much... I'm in half a mind to ring them back up cos I'm in such bad pain

Ring back!! Don't be fobbed off again you shouldn't have to suffer x

jellyfishperiwinkle · 12/02/2025 04:17

Go straight back to A&E, it could be an infection or internal bleeding.

emanresu24 · 12/02/2025 04:24

I'd go back. I have PCOS, ruptured cysts, and had severe OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome). I checked myself out of the hospital early as I knew it was safe to do so. If I'd had that pain and didn't know why, I'd want an answer. I went home with 2 types of anti-emetics (and blood thinners, but that was due to my estrogen levels). It sounds like more than just a ruptured cyst.

AC20218 · 12/02/2025 04:47

I rang the ward up, and even after crying at them on the phone and telling them I've been taking my Codiene & paracetamol every 4 hourly since I got out and taking the something acid pills that they gave me to help the pain as well they've just told me to take another acid pill and ring back in an hour or two

I'm sat on my bathroom floor in agony idek what to do

Smittenkitchen · 12/02/2025 05:25

Sorry you're suffering so much, OP. Hope you can get some relief very soon x

Octavia64 · 12/02/2025 05:37

I had this.

Mine ruptured in Turkey on holiday.

The fluids in them can really really irritate your abdominal lining and that's part of what causes the pain.

The something acid will be a painkiller.

Try alternating the codeine and the something acid. If it's not working ask for more painkillers.

I had painkillers and iv fluids and antibiotics.

AC20218 · 12/02/2025 05:48

I had no antibiotics while I was in the hospital and no fluids at all, even when they fasted me for a day and a half which caused my blood sugar to drop to 2.6 they gave me a glucose shot which helped and still fasted me for another half a day.

It's agonising and the acid tablet hasn't worked and it's been an hour :(

Octavia64 · 12/02/2025 05:58

Go back to an and e.

It's possible for multiple cysts to rupture.

Either way you are in pain and need to be seen.

AC20218 · 12/02/2025 08:37

I'm in A&E atm guys :) heart rate and BP are high. My temp is normal. I'm waiting to see a doctor but I feel so faint :( the triage nurse straight away said 'I'm gonna speak to the doctor and see where he wants me to put you'

I feel horrid my heart rate was 114

I’m glad you’re in A&E. I’ve just read the thread and was going to suggest going there. I’ve had a ruptured cyst, I know what you’re going through. Hope you get some relief soon x

Smittenkitchen · 12/02/2025 09:40

Glad you've gone to A&E, OP. Hope you don't have a long wait and get the tests and treatment you need.

AC20218 · 12/02/2025 10:33

I've just started literally seeping watery discharge from down there n now I'm freaked out what's going on with me 😭

OP posts:
Smittenkitchen · 12/02/2025 12:48

That must be really scary. I'm sure you've let the triage nurse know? As that's a change in your condition.

AC20218 · 12/02/2025 14:03

I didn't even bother saying owt, A&E we're more worried about my physical health than Gynaecology were. All they did was offer a different pain medication. Tell me this severe pain that I'm literally crying my eyes at them to is normal and me feeling this physically drained and unwell is normal for a cyst

Shouldn't of even bothered tbh, I've not slept in 3 days cos of the pain and idek what to do anymore tbh. Nobody listens

OP posts:
Smittenkitchen · 12/02/2025 14:42

So sorry OP. You must be beyond miserable 😖 Hope you can some relief soon.

misssadface · 12/02/2025 19:02

@AC20218 how are you xx

AC20218 · 12/02/2025 22:00

I slept all day pretty much when I got home as I've not slept in 3 nights due to the pain. Feel so tired still and still feel really off and unwell.

OP posts:
AC20218 · 12/02/2025 22:03

But I'm gonna see how I go, if I start with a temperature at all I'm gonna go straight back as I'm not risking becoming septic or anything. The doctor I spoke to today tried to say 'you're only ovulating' and I said well why have I been told that I had a cyst that burst then? And she basically down played it that it shouldn't hurt and that I was over reacting. I literally broke down crying to her explaining that if I wasn't in this much pain then why haven't I slept in 3 nights, why have I come back to hospital? When it was the bloody gynaecology ward that told me to go to A&E as I had rang then yesterday in the middle of the night as it hadn't even been more than 24 hours since I was on the ward.

Walkingwithdinosaurs · 12/02/2025 22:40

Hi OP the same thing happened me this weekend. I’ve had a burst cyst before so knew exactly what it was. It’s so sore I couldn’t even stand & I was being sick. I had to leave work and go straight to bed for a few days until it passed.

I don’t bother going to A&E or the doctors anymore it’s the same old story every time. I take the meds you’ve mentioned and wait for it to pass.

I’ve been dealing with this for years and nothing changes so I’ve given up. You have my sympathy 💐

AC20218 · 12/02/2025 23:49

Thank you so much for everyone's support, had more support from you lot than from the doctors just felt like it was silly to even go back. I've never had anything like this happen before, if this keeps happening every month I'm going to push to get my ovary's removed I actually can't continue like this

OP posts:
Springisintheairohyeah · 13/02/2025 00:02

Absolutely not silly at all. It's sad how much women have to advocate for themselves to get taken seriously. If you're in that much pain, it doesn't even matter if it's "just ovulating" - it needs to be investigated properly and your pain managed adequately.

My mum had ovarian cancer - not a cyst, so don't panic, different to your condition. The reason I bring it up is that she went back and forth to hospitals/doctors for months on end, constantly dismissed or fobbed off. Last time she collapsed and fainted with the pain, her GP prescribed her sertraline (anti anxiety medication) and gave her the number of a telephone counselling service.

She phoned me that night crying down the phone in pain (I live a long way away, so couldn't be there physically to help). In the end she took herself to A&E, demanded to be seen, refused to move, and sat on the floor for 17 hours before she saw a doctor. She was not "feeling a bit anxious", she had stage 3 ovarian cancer.

Puppyyayornay · 13/02/2025 15:12

How are you feeling today? 💐

Smittenkitchen · 13/02/2025 16:37

Unbelievable gaslighting from the Dr 😡

AC20218 · 13/02/2025 16:41

Hi guys I slept from 4pm yesterday till 11am this morning, I was absolutely worn out I hadn't slept in 3 nights and was just so incredibly drained, sorry for not getting back to you guys

I've made another post about wondering if I have endometriosis as these cysts that keep happening and the fact that when I had an ectopic last year they found adhesions on my bowel but weren't actively looking for endo so said they didn't really see any. My stomach is still really bloated and the right side and top of my stomach seems to be a more firm than the rest of my stomach.

It's been 10 years of pain and being fobbed off by doctors so idek where to start to get this checked out but all I know is I can't keep taking painkillers for it

OP posts:
farmlife2 · 13/02/2025 20:18

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's so hard when you can't get the help you need from doctors. I hope someone is going to find out what is going on for you soon.
