Iron levels

Mum is bedbound and had bloods 6 months ago and they said as long as her iron stayed above 100 it was ok but they've now checked again and it's 81.
Doctor can straight to the house he said she needs a gastroenterologist and camera either up or down within two weeks.
He said if she's not bleeding outside there must be something inside.
I'm finding Google hard to get information from, mum is also hard to get info from and I wasn't there when all this happened.
Has anyone encountered this? Should I be as scared as I am? She's in her early 70s.

Yes she needs a colonoscopy and a endoscopy, they'll check for coeliac disease too in case she's just not absorbing iron so not necessarily anything sinister.

Thankyou. I think the two week thing is what scared me the most!
She's a fragile lady, the thought of more harming her is so wrong 😞

The two week pathway is a good thing, she will get seen more quickly in theory

Thankyou, my logical head knows that's right! It's likely nothing sinister but when it's a loved one it's a worry Flowers

Had a consultation today. They've decided to go with a cat scan instead of colonoscopy. At first I took that as an easier test for her but from what I'm reading it seems like it's going to be more complicated than the original plan.
The consultant is booking it himself so I'm guessing it will be soon.
Not sure why I'm posting other than I can type out irrational fears here and keep quiet in real life!
I'm probably reading too much into things

That's good, it does take a couple of weeks to notice any difference
