I've turned 25 and need to go in for my first one.
I'm a little scared, do I need to be?
Wishing you all a good day.

Don't be nervous, it's nothing to be worried about and it could save your life!

I've had 3 now I believe and each time it has been painless and quick. Over within 10 minutes and only moderate discomfort when they insert the speculum.

I would recommend taking some baby wipes or something because they use lubricant and it's a nightmare to get off.

My first one was very painful and they gave up before they could get a sample. This was a total shock to me because I'd believed all the stuff about "it doesn't hurt a bit".

Several years later I learned there was a smaller speculum. Since then they have been generally ok, though still not always painless. So if the first speculum is too big, know that you can ask for a smaller one: made all the difference to me!

Honestly- it's not the most pleasant experience but it's not the worst either.

I know it's difficult but the more relaxed you can be the easier and quicker it will be x
