Mirena and long period

Hi, has anyone experienced this and did it improve?

i had the mirena coil fitted a few weeks ago and currently having my first period since, I’m still bleeding fresh blood 8 days now!

my periods are usually 8/9 days long but the last days are more spotting brown old blood barely needing a pad.

I have adenomyosis which is why I had the coil fitted after having it recommended by the gynaecologist.

my iron is also low, i am taking iron daily but this is just wiping me out 😢

It didn't improve for me with the mirena coil. I bled every day for just over a year before insisting it was removed. I did get a window of about 8 weeks in the middle of that without bleeding but it came back and then it didn't stop.

I think that we can all react differently to it. Maybe that comes back to the reasons it was put in in the first place. For me it was to tackle fibroids and heavy bleeding but it achieved neither.

For some women it seems to be a miracle cure but others don't get on with it at all, and every shade in-between. It's a bit like marmite that way and women either love it or hate it whilst the medical professionals often seem to tout it as the panacea for just about everything.

You should probably see your GP if it is worrying you.

After having the coil inserted (both times) I bled straight for 6 weeks and then it eased off.
Your body is still adjusting to the hormones so I think it'll take a few cycles for it to figure out what its new normal will be.

I hope it all settles down for you!
