Mirena coil removal- lost strings

Venting.
I lost the strings and an ultrasound showed it was still in place. Initially GP said would need to be removed in hospital and then made an appointment with ANP instead.

I asked her how she was going to get it out. She said with her ‘coil catcher’. I am an adult and would like her to use proper names so I know exactly what she is going to stick up my vagina.

I asked if she would use the ultrasound picture to find it. She said no, she would basically fish around with her ‘coil catcher in my uterus’ until she found it. No pain relief. Couldn’t say how long that would take. I asked about her success rate and she wouldn’t comment on that either.

Minimum communication throughout.

Sadly the coil got away from the coil catcher and I have gone home bleeding and uncomfortable.

Surely there must be a better way. Can’t you use ultrasound to find it then grab it? Or pain relief? What happens if there is a foreign body in your anus? Does that get the same treatment? I suspect as this also applies to men then there will be routine pain relief and a way to visualise the object to be removed??

In 2025, women still being expected to suck up second rate healthcare!

I got mine removed under general anaesthetic after they had tried fishing it out a couple of times
