Cervical Cyst

Hi

Really worrying right now and for context I have health anxiety

today I have had a private scan for a fertility check up, not TTC but just turned 35 and wanted to check what was going on ( I have PCOS)

everything was fine apart from the PCOS I know about but in terms of everything else

however the sonographer told me I have a 3.33 mm simple / nabothian cyst on my cervix

he wasn't a doctor and when I asked questions he told me I should see my GP but said it's benign and could be hormonal?

I had my last smear in august 2024 all clear with no HPV same as my last few smears years before

is this anything to worry about ? Or has anyone experienced this ?

I am doing therapy for health anxiety as it's bad atm but this is sending me spiralling

Completely harmless. No need to worry at all.

I actually saw my GP yesterday for a similar reason! It is a 7mm cyst. He says it’s benign and not to worry about it all. He said it with such conviction it’s obvious they know the signs between a benign cyst and one for concern. Sounds like it’s so obvious that even your guy (who isn’t a doctor!) felt fine saying it to you. Just see the GP for peace of mind but sounds like it’s not an issue.

Throughout my IVF treatment I had several cysts found, between 10-20mm, which were all completely benign (I'm healthy and needed IVF due to male factor).

Most women have one or two cysts, it's completely normal. A 3.3mm cyst is nothing.

Personally I wouldn't bother going to the GP as they won't do anything unless it gets a lot bigger.

This is actually a good one to google. These are absolutely harmless and extremely common. I recently was referred because my GP spotted one. The gynaecologist described them as the equivalent of spots on your face, it's a build up of oils. Nothing to worry about at all. They grow and burst. Also they were very reassured by the fact I've always attended my smear tests. So please do not worry and keep attending any screening offered.

Thanks for all your messages which have made me feel better

I did Google it but I'm not meant to Google due to my health anxiety as it can spiral

I do have a GP appointment this morning but hopefully I will be told the same as all of you

it's not clear though if they go away on their own or are always there as some websites say they go some day they don't

Hi did you get any more info on these cysts? I have a colposcopy booked for lumps on my cervix

Popie123 · 17/06/2025 08:59

@Wrekt Hi I had a follow up scan and was told they are nabothian cysts and are normal and nothing to worry about. Mine weren't described as lumps. Hope everything goes ok for you
