I've always has mild cramps. I just wait for them to pass and put lots of heat on them. This time they were unbearable. First time ever. And the pain was in a different place. I even considered going to A&E. It was that bad and I was that worried. But I didn't. I managed to fall back to sleep and they passed.

Why could the pain have been so bad this time round ?

I'm late 40s and prob going into peri

It’ll be peri, I’m afraid - very common for periods to get heavier and more painful before they depart. Keep on with the heat, and take good pain relief, which it doesn’t sound as though you’ve needed so far. There’s guidance on the NHS web pages about when to seek medical help, especially if you start to get bleeding between periods. I sympathise - it’s just another thing to contend with in perimenopause.

44 here, never had a problem in that department until the last couple of years and now find myself having to take ibuprofen.

This started for me a couple of years ago after never having pain with periods, I'm 45 and currently undergoing tests for endometriosis. As well as painful periods I have sciatica like symptoms and bowel issues with periods. In the last couple of years I've gone from someone with no health issues to being in chronic pain
