Intimate cyst - anyone had this?

Right, so I went to GP after having a lump on front wall of my vagina right by my urethra (sorry for all the detail, bleh) for a month, seemed to subside for a couple of weeks of that and now is way more prominent and the pressure is making the skin painful. It hurts to sit down. And to walk. I’m on my period and inserting a tampon is agony. I went this morning and they said it’s a cyst, not in the right place really for a bartholin but that kinda thing. Went to GP this morning, they prescribed antibiotics and said if it gets worse to call the docs and get a same-day gynae appointment there as an emergency, or go to A&E.

It feels worse this evening. I also feel just wiped out and either shivering-cold or really warm, not sure if I’m just under the weather or if it’s because of this cyst. The GP said it could be an access hence the antibiotics.

Would I be being dramatic to go to the hospital tonight? Even though the doctor did advise this it feels a bit stupid as it’s neither an accident nor emergency: the cyst/lump is a bit bigger than a marble. I have a toddler and would rather not deal with last-min childcare logistics while I sit in casualty for hours, but I genuinely feel awful. It hurts to sit down or move and I feel sick. Hoping someone else has an experience of something like this and can reassure me and tell me to just be patient 😅😅

Has anyone had anything like this? Think I just need reassurance that it can wait until tomorrow! And that I’m not alone in it. Husband is running me a bath to have a soak, just feel daft for ignoring the problem for a month and now panicking about it all! I really don’t want to sit in A&E if it’s not necessary so if anyone’s had a cyst like this that antibiotics sorted out I’d love to hear! Thank you! 😭

I had one when pregnant, Drs sent me to A&E, they wanted to surgically drain it, but couldn't get me in that night, so sent me away with antibiotics to come back the following morning.

Had taken 2 doses before returning and when the surgeon checked, it had popped! Thank goodness they checked in the pre-theatre rather than when they had put me under!

But the fever symptoms are a worry... they were concerned that I could go septic, which is why they wanted to operate so if you are feeling more unwell than when you saw the GP - I'd call 11

I too have had these several times. I've seen a gynaecologist too who was clueless. But eventually it'll pop and it sounds like it is very close to it & then you'll feel such relief! Warm baths, hot flannel on it and probably not advisable really but a little squeeze might help it pop.

I had something like this many years ago - it is pure evil agony! Mine was more on the outer labia; anyway it came to a head and I found a sterilised syringe in a packet which I had left over from giving my dog immunotherapy. I used the needle to pierce it and the relief was wonderful. (Obviously you have to be extremely careful it has come to a head and that you can keep it clean afterwards). Good luck 🤞

Just a lil update, woke up and felt really rough (antibiotics maybe?) and kind of wanted a second opinion honestly, as was in pain in the night and the lump felt worse when I woke up. Doctor I saw said it didn’t seem like an abscess/infection and hadn’t seen anything like it, I’ve been referred for an urgent scan and told to go to A&E if I feel feverish or worse in myself or it gets worse, as she said she doesn’t know how long for the scan to come through. She seemed adamant it’s not a Bartholin’s cyst and more around my urethra. Not good for anxiety levels but eh!

I hope you get sorted soon. Lets us know how you get on.

Just another update (I hate threads with no resolution!). Ended up at A&E due to feeling really not right, they got me a next-day gynae appointment. The doc I saw there is fairly sure it’s two abscesses on my urethra a bit bigger than a marble (fun). Just that big it seemed more like a vaginal issue with where they are placed. Waiting on a scan to see if it’s a urinary diverticulum which would need a more complex procedure to deal with, for now waiting on a scan and hoping antibiotics start to work soon. They had a go at draining them off by just poking at me with the sharp plasticy end of a cannula and felt my soul leaving my body 💀

So looks to be, hopefully, nothing too serious! At worst a minor surgery to deal with and sending off to test just in case. Moral of the story, don’t leave anything like this for a month cos I’m pretty sure if I’d had antibiotics a month ago this wouldn’t have become an issue 😅
