Adenomyosis causing UTI symptoms??

Hi all

I was diagnosed with adenomyosis mid 2023, via MRI which I was given due to sudden onset of various painful issues 'down below'. I had the mirena coil fitted in Dec 2023 and things do seem to have calmed down a bit - my horrendous flooding periods are no more, but do still get spotting here and there and some pain and bloating. One issue that has persisted is repeated painful UTI's. I've lost count of how many anti b courses I've been on over the last 18 months, and am currently having another bout (and am sat here in tears after a very painful wee). Could this be the adenomyosis causing the symptoms and not actually a UTI? Often the antibiotics don't seem to stop the symptoms but eventually they will calm down, before coming back again usually within the next two months (or less). I'm just so utterly sick and tired of feeling like this now and feeling very sorry for myself tonight. I feel like this is never going to end 😢

I can’t help totally.

but I have the same diagnosis and the same mirena ‘solution’.

while no excess UTIs, I do need to wee a whole lot more. at my subsequent check ups with my gynaecologist (I’d had a minor surgery plus mirena insertion) he said my adenomyosis was advanced enough that the size differential in my uterus may lead to more Frequent weeing due to its pressure on my bladder.

Thank you. That's interesting to know. I wish I had a doctor or consultant who could advise this stuff. However it's not just the frequency, which has definitely increased - it's intense burning pain I'm experiencing, intermittently. It's life(style) limiting when it's at it's worse. And I'm so fed up with it now. Again, thank you

Go back to your gp about it definitely to try and get to the route of it.

So annoying they just giving you Antibiotics all the time. It's clearly not treating the issue.

Do you usually start with the uti symptoms start when your period is due/ arrived?

Yes, for me it causes uti symptoms at certain times of the month, always with increased leukocytes in my urine and a trace of blood. No actual infection. It causes interstitial cystitis in my case.

I’ve had decades of it.

Following with interest. I have Adenomyosis and interstitial cystitis. Pain flares during and/or before period. Didn't know there was a link..... any cure?! Ha
