What is happening to my vag

LivingMyBestAnxietyLife · 04/01/2025 09:05

I dont know what's happend to my vagina, around a month ago I used a sex toy i stupidly didn't clean it before use (sorry tmi) then had sex with my husband the next day I wee after sex always and clean myself. The following days I started getting symptoms of thrush so brought a canesten pessary and cream it didn't work so I went to the doctors and they gave me the pill it didn't go then I went back to the doctors and they did sti swabs and thrush swab with haemolyic strep and group B strep she prescribed me another pessary and more canesten cream, she said it wasn't BV all swabs came back negative but the horrible itching just hasn't gone its so weird as it will be painfully itchy for 10 mins and then it just stops for hours also when I wee if I really push the wee out and it comes out quickly it itches my vagina something horrible, I've been up since 5am with an itchy vag it did settle but im embarrassed to say that its now making me very anxious 😔 it's driving me mental and out of sheer desperation I used another pessary last night but it's done nothing. I've had sex over the Christmas period but always cleaned and wee'd after I'm not washing with soap but I don't have a bath only a shower so maybe it's dripping on to it idk
Please help me im at my wits end.

Edit to say I have a episiotomy scar from child birth and gets so inflamed and itchy also

It’s probably worth going to a sexual health clinic and having all the tests done. I really think you should abstain from intercourse as well until all cleared up. It sounds horrible - sorry you’re going through this. Check whether you have to make an appointment- some clinics do drops ins but not all.

ClioMuse · 04/01/2025 13:22

Could it be an allergy? when I get thrush the creams set off itching so need to use the tablet only.

Not cleaning the sex toy might only be coincidental.

ClioMuse · 04/01/2025 13:24

What age are you OP? Near menopause?

My heart goes out to you. I'm currently having a bout of thrush and the pharmacist gave me the fluconazole tablet. Have treated DH with cream too so he doesn't pass it back to me.

When it's definitely gone I'll start up the vaginal oestrogen cream again

DeclineandFall · 04/01/2025 13:39

The odd time I have thrush I find after the tablet the thrush might have gone but there is still irritation because your vaginal biome is out of whack. If you keep using pessaries you are killing all the good bacteria as well- so its probably making it worse. Have you tried a probiotic specifically for the vagina? I use the Dr Vegan ones but used Pro-ven ones before which were good. I think I used double strength to start with. If its your vulva that's itchy try naydaya oil.

margegunderson · 04/01/2025 13:42

If you're peri age could be Genito urinary syndrome of menopause (used to be called vaginal atrophy) and local oestrogen cream, pessary or ring would sort you. Otherwise google lichen sclerosis. Sexual health clinics better than GP on this sort of thing

Cindersilly · 04/01/2025 13:50

Following! I have had similar symptoms. I even hot washed ALL my underwear in case I had an allergy to previous detergent used.

I reached the stage where I think it’s an allergy all of a sudden! But I don’t use soap down there or have baths. My last san pro was “scented” (who goes around sniffing San Pro anyway!??) - I just wish I knew what caused it all!!

😭

UnderTheStairs51 · 04/01/2025 13:51

You haven't changed your toilet paper? My husband picked one up and it was infused with lemon (who the hell wants that!) and I didn't realise.

I could not work out what was wrong with me. Then read the packet and changed. No issues since.

There seem to be more and more of these stupid extras in loo roll and it's not always obvious.

YES! This was another thing I noticed. Our usual Sainsbury’s loo roll had become scented as well!

I switched back to unscented (only to be found in Home Bargains!) and things did calm down.

Thank you for reminding me of this.

crochetandshit · 04/01/2025 14:01

If it is thrush then it would be worth your DH taking the pill at the same time as you or he could be asymptomatic and reinfecting you.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/01/2025 14:04

Have you just used the pessary and cream, not the tablet? I've never found that the pessary does anything for me, I've always had to take the tablet, but that's sorted thrush out for me very quickly.

Itching at nighttime only?

Have checked for thread worms? They can go up your vagina and your urethra and it’s deeply unpleasant and can be painful as well as itchy.

I've tried 3 pessaries and 1 tablet, it's got better but hasn't fully gone and is so irritating. My scar become so inflamed and sore 😔

mumandmumber · 04/01/2025 23:59

It might be vulval dermatitis. You might need a steroid to nip it in the bud. Insist your GP refers you to gynaecology. Depending your age, you might also want to try a topical oestrogen cream.

gamerchick · 05/01/2025 00:00

When I get thrush I have to do 3 treatments before it goes. Its really irritating (literally).

Not only at bedtime but worse at night if that makes sense. Would the doctor have been able to see this because I've had a full exam down there and she said its normal except for inflammation before Christmas this was though 🤔

Almostwelsh · 05/01/2025 00:02

Have you tried taking an antihistamine? If it's an allergy that will help.

mumandmumber · 05/01/2025 00:02

Also, cut out all soaps/shower washes, and only wash your hair over the bath so nothing comes in contact with your vulva.
Ensure your toilet paper is 100% natural and unscented, wear white cotton underwear only (dye can irritate), and try to go without underwear at night/at home as much as possible.

mumandmumber · 05/01/2025 00:05

And stop wearing jeans/leggings etc
for a whole. Minimise friction and try to ‘air’ it, esp if your scar inflamed and sore.

LivingMyBestAnxietyLife · 05/01/2025 00:06

I don't have a bath..we have a wet room for my boy but im gonna wash it over the sink with a jug ect as it started itching today after a shower
