Mild incontinence - menopause?

I am 49 and have been having menopause symptoms for a few years (the usual hot flush, loss of libido, low mood, thinning hair etc etc) and am on HRT. I'm not too bad but I'm struggling a bit with stress incontinence. I need to wee if I have a cup of tea, and I can't hold my pee like I used to. Once I start, I have to keep going! The sound of running water also seems to start some kind of involuntary reaction that makes me need to pee immediately. It's starting to make me anxious about stuff like going to the gym because sneezing or coughing have become high risk activities. It's not much that comes out, but some does. I am single and this is putting me off dating as I could not feel less sexy. Wearing Tena pads would probably mean I'd stay celibate forever. Is this common? Is there anything I can do about it? I have Vagirux but I don't think it's making much difference.

I have had to cut out caffeine. That made a real difference.

Do you practice pelvic floor exercises?

Mabelface · 02/01/2025 18:07

Stop caffeine completely. Honestly, it makes such a difference. I've had an overactive bladder all my life and take meds which are wonderful, but caffeine still impacts if I overdo it.

Do you practice pelvic floor exercises?

Yes, religiously, and have done for years.

Oh god, I love my coffee! But I'll try cutting it out and see if that makes a difference. I'm cutting out alcohol too to see if that helps (Dry January!).

bloody hell… can’t wait for the next round of menopausal hell to kick in… no coffee or alcohol unless I want mild incontinence😩

Are you using any vaginal HRT? Ovestin or similar? I found it to really help with continence. And also the “Honeymoon UTIs” I was suffering from in the early enthusiastic stages of a new relationship.
