Recurrent Thrush Won’t Go Away

Hi all - was wondering if anyone had any advice. I have suffered with recurrent episodes of thrush since about May 2022. I first suffered after sleeping with a new partner. I proceeded to get swabbed and STI checked and all were negative apart from heavy growth of yeast (thrush). This eventually shifted with the usual medication but I have suffered with recurrent episodes since. These used to be every few months but after a course of antibiotics a few months ago - I have had thrush symptoms (itching and lots of white thick discharge) constantly for about 2.5 months, only going when on my period. I’ve used 2 weeks of pessaries and was also put on a 6 month course of weekly fluconazole which worked at first but it’s now not touching the sides and the discharge and itching just isn’t going. I have been tested for diabetes and my bloods were all normal. It’s really starting to affect my mental health and doctors aren’t very useful. I’m taking optibac probiotics, oregano oil supplements, apple cider vinegar dilluted everyday and even going to try homeopathy now. I’ve spoken to the doctor again today as I’m at my wits end and haven’t stopped crying today. But I know they will not be helpful. Has anyone had this issue before or know if anyone that has? I’m desperate for some advice or comfort. Thank you xxx

Are you still with the same partner? If so you both need treating otherwise he'll be passing it back to you!

Hey, yes my current boyfriend has been given a dose of fluconazole just in case. Although he has no symptoms

It can be a sign of diabetes so worth getting checked for this.

SparkleRelax · 30/12/2024 13:56

Already been checked for diabetes. Thank you though x

Are you sure it's thrush OP?
Only l thought l had reoccurring thrush and it turned out it was Lichen Sclerosis.

@MaryGreenhill I have seen a few people say this. Did you get vaginal discharge with this?

I had this in my early twenties for about 3 years, eventually got rid of it by doing a yeast free diet for 6 months. It was really hard, but it did the trick. Google candida overgrowth and leaky bowel syndrome, two separate issues that could be blocking you from getting rid of the thrush. I also had a big job change at the same time as the diet which massively reduced my stress levels and with hindsight I think that was beneficial in my recovery too.

@OttersAreMySpiritAnimal The diet is my next step, I’ve been looking into the Candida diet online which does look tough but I’m willing to try anything and it’s reassuring to know it has cured a lot of people. I’m currently seeing a therapist to help calm my stress and anxiety also!

Yes l did but l think it was from the LS
because you are so sore and itch so much you scratch and cause abrasions .
I do hope you get to the bottom of this very soon it's absolute misery bless you ..

Hi @SparkleRelax know this is a old post but did it get sorted I'm in agony!

Skibbidirizzohio · 23/10/2025 17:47

This happened to me Op so I feel your pain. Turns out I just kept catching if from my current partner. In the end both of us taking a triple dose of fluconazole and then abstaining for a week did the trick. If he takes antibiotics then it flares up again and we have to start again. I honestly never realised it could be passed back and forth like an STI before I met him. I think I had it twice before we met!

I think cutting out sugar makes a huge difference
