Abscess

I have a 2 inch (and growing) abscess on my labia. I've been to the walk in today and they have prescribed erythromycin. Does anyone know how long they take to work? I literally can't walk or sit and I feel it's going to burst. The nurse said its not ready to burst yet. I'm in so much pain!

I unfortunately suffer from these a lot. Bath as hot as you can handle and when not in the bath, a clean flannel (new each time) of hot water, again as hot as you can handle. Don't squeeze it etc but it will eventually drain and the relief will be magical

Thankyou NewYear. I don't have a bath but I've bought some flannels today. It's still growing and impinging both front and back passages 😪

I literally boil the kettle, dip part of the flannel in, wave it around a bit after to cool down then put it in the offending area as soon as possible - without giving myself a third degree burn down there! Keep warm things applied as much as possible, it's hideous but will be over soon. However if it starts to spread or you start to feel unwell go back to GP / call 111 - good luck!

Those antibiotics made me very unwell and I was told they take longer to work than something like amoxicillin.
Can you go back tomorrow and push to be seen by gynaecology? My friend had an abscess and was seen by plastic surgeons within 48 hours.

Thank you ladies for your replies. Yes I'm going to go back at 8am because I'm not going to be able to pee or poop at this rate. Also I can barely walk 😭

Do you have a gynaecology A&E nearby? I had similar recently and they were fantastic, didn’t fob me off with antibiotics and dealt with it straight away.

I hope it’s reduced overnight or is being sorted for you today.
