Sudden heavy bleeding after sex

Last night after having sex I started an extremely heavy vaginal bleed. Not my period, that ended 5 days ago. Since then I've been going through a super tampon and pad every hour with huge clots up to a golf ball in size.

I did see a gyno this morning who did an ultrasound and couldn't find anything other than a small cervical erosion, although she said that wouldn't be causing this level of bleeding (definitely no polyps, fibroids etc). She basically shrugged, said 'hormones' and prescribed norethisterone.

Has anyone else had this and actually found a cause? The amount of blood has been really shocking. And how long until the norethisterone should slow/stop the bleeding?

Are you peri menopause age?

I think what age you are is key to any answer. My periods went crazily heavy in peri menopause, they can also become very irregular.

Make sure your smears are up to date as well. Speak to your doctor.

Age is very important and if peri or post menopausal yiu need To ask to see the meno expert at the surgery
does blood pool in the bottom of the toilet bowl or is it period like?

I'm 36, so could it be peri at that age? Sorry for not clarifying in the original post.

Smears are not up to date but the doctor did do one yesterday.
