HRT and periods are back

Aching joints for months so GP suggested Eva Conti HRT patches. I've been period free for nearly 2 years and I'm 52. After 6 weeks of patches, my joints are improved but I've had 2 periods. The second one (started yesterday) is so heavy! Period pains back with a vengeance too!

I don't know if I want to compromise like this - after the initial grief of not having periods, I got used to the freedom of it so now, I really don't want them back.

What are my options?

Have you been back to dr? I was told to go back for any bleeding.

I have the same. Have been faffing about with different patches because of allergies and then started taking utrogestan every day. Periods went away for a glorious six months and are now back. Painfully. As are my hormonal nosebleeds.

I'm assuming the levels of one hormone or the otehr aren't high enough. Your GP will probably refer you for a scan but bear in mind they often read them cautiously if you are over 50 even if you are not fully menopausal, in my experience. I eventual got as far as a consultant who just declared I probably was't actually menopausal yet.

I sometimes suspect my skin isn't absorbing the patches that well.

They aren't periods in the old sense as they aren't triggered by the cycle of your ovaries releasing eggs but it's the same experience but worth mentioning I think.

It is worth getting a check as any bleeding after menopause should be checked but it's likely nothing more than a settling thing.

I bled more and intermittently after I started HRT for about 2 years. It stopped eventually although if I mess up and miss a progesterone tablet or get out of sync due to long haul travel I sometime spot for a day or two.
