Bleeding on mini pill

Hi, I am nearly 41. I have been on the mini pill for the past 5 years apart from when trying to conceive and pregnant with DC2. In all that time I never had a period. Then last month I got quite a heavy one. This month I got some light bleeding, followed by a few days break and then some slightly heavier bleeding.

I've been to doctor and been referred for an ultrasound. I'm quite anxious. Anyone else had similar experiences?

Me! I had my ultrasound last week and they took a biopsy afterwards. They said it all looked 'healthy' and most likely just hormonal. Recommended the coil as an alternative.

Thank you, that sounds positive. GP did mention maybe switching to the coil.
She thinks I am too young for it to be perimenopause related but looking online it seems as though that can start any time from 40.

I don't suppose you're currently or have been recently breastfeeding by any chance? Been on the mini pill for years and never had periods other than when trying to conceive but when I really started cutting down on the breastfeeding with my son it triggered on and off bleeding sometimes quite heavy, despite being on the mini pill and now I've just started having the same again now I've cut down on breastfeeding my daughter. Not even sure if it's breastfeeding related or just general postpartum hormonal stuff.

I was on Implanon for 9 years and recently switched to the mini pill (I'm 32) During that time, I experienced some irregular bleeding now and then, but nothing consistent. After being referred for an ultrasound, it turned out I had a hemorrhagic cyst. I also have endometriosis, which was diagnosed separately through keyhole surgery. Try not to worry too much :)

@WhiteHorse92 yes I am still breastfeeding DD 2 and went back to work 3 months ago so have cut down a lot on day feeds. That's interesting, I forgot to mention to the doctor that I am still bf!

@Anonymus89 when I was pregnant with DD2 during one of my scans they spotted a small cyst on one of my ovaries so I did wonder about that

Oh god yes. I had a scan about five years ago for this. And it was fine. My doctor said that I was starting peri menopause and the pill wasn’t enough to keep it at bay. So she changed me to another one.

then about a year ago it started up again. Been for a scan yesterday and am awaiting by the results. Not really worried at all. Maybe fibroids. Or just menopausal crap.

I'm 42 and experiencing similar. I never have a bleed but I've had one (a light one) for over two weeks now

I hope all is fine with yours, it's mostly likely nothing to worry about.
