Name changed for this.
About 25 years ago I was raped.
Since then I have been lucky to have good health and apart from a couple of minor things have not seen a doctor.
I attend the clinic for breast screening but have not had any kind of cervical screening or anything else that involves that area.
I think I may have a prolapse, it kind of feels like when a tampon isn’t in properly and I feel sore.
I know I need to see someone but I don’t know how I am going to allow anyone to examine me, I am in tears just thinking about it.
Has anyone else experienced this, is there anything I can do or take to keep me calm?
Help
Thankyou

Ask to speak to the Practice Manager to explain your situation (or show them a print out of your post if it would be too difficult to verbalise).
You can ask to be seen at the end of a clinic so no one booked in after you - this takes the pressure off re feeling rushed.
You can ask for an appointment with a nurse just to talk about what happens during an examination, see the equipment that might be used, and then make a follow up appointment to have the examination if you don't want to commit to going through with it there and then.
Take some one with you, to be with you during the examination, or to stay with you afterwards/get you home safely.
You can stop the procedure at any time, for any reason and the clinician will respect your wishes.
I can't imagine what horrors you have been through, and are still going through. Heath Care Professionals should be understanding, and make reasonable adjustments for you.

Thankyou that’s really helpful.
Unfortunately I can’t take anyone with me as no one knows, I will have to do this on my own.
I wasn’t aware that I was able to just talk to the nurse first , that makes me feel a lot better.
Also I will ask for an end of clinic appointment as I know I may look a horrible mess by the time I leave and I don’t want people staring at me.
I really appreciate you taking the time to reply
