UTI - in so much pain - HELP!

Frequent sufferer of UTIs in the past, but this one is something else. Went from 0-100 in literally a couple of hours. Managed to get antibiotics from the pharmacy after a couple of sachets of crystals didn't even touch the sides. I'm alternating between sitting on the loo for an hour passing tiny drops (sorry if tmi) to sitting in the shower sobbing. Is this pain normal?! When I do manage to pass a decent amount it feels like there's razor blades there, and my bladder feels like it's being twisted by my child using it like a fidget toy. I'm shaking and feel sick I'm in that much pain, and so tired I just want to get some sleep. I'm hoping the antibiotics kick in soon and start to give some relief... This is absolutely miserable!
Not quite sure the point of this post, just feeling very sorry for myself

Can you get some lemon barley squash?? It usually helps me X hope you feel better soon x

I think they advise bicarbonate of soda dissolved in water is meant to help as it balanced the pH levels.

Sit in a warm bath and just relax, the warm water soothes the pain when passing urine massively.
Same as running a job of warm water down as you sit on a toilet.

Life saver!!

Have you had painkillers? Take some if not
Pour water over your bits while you wee

strawberrysea · 09/12/2024 20:18

Take x3 ibuprofen and x2 paracetamol.

Drink as much water as possible, until you feel like you are literally about to explode because you've had so much to drink.

Avoid spicy foods, Coke/Diet Coke/coffee and anything with tomato. No alcohol. (Sorry, if you have UTIs frequently you probably already know not to consume the above)

Try not to sit on the toilet. It will hurt a lot less when you have to go if you have a full bladder.

Still haunted by the memory of a horrific UTI 5 years ago the things that helped me was sitting in the bath for ages and just topping up with warm water to keep it a comfortable temp, if I needed to dribble in there I did and had a hot soapy shower afterwards (no soap on vulva). Wearing period underwear and putting a hot water bottle between my legs and drinking pints of water to try and flush it out. By day 2 of the antibiotics it was on its way out and thankfully soon cleared up but those first couple of days before I got antibiotics still make me wince.

Thank you all, managed to hobble into bed with 2 hot water bottles and several drinks and painkillers on my bedside to keep me going.
Currently alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen to keep me topped up on meds. Been jumping between the shower/bath and toilet since 5 this afternoon. Feeling very grumpy. DH is missing around me and right now I just want to be left alone. I know he means well bless him, Da but just don't touch me!

You can call NHS Direct and they are able to prescribe over the phone for you to pick up at a pharmacy. Not sure if the ones in Tescos or similar will still be open near you but if not you can go first thing in the morning to pick up. In the meantime, a hot water bottle and some of those cranberry sachets might give you a bit of relief. Sympathy op, there awful things, I used to really suffer.

*antibiotics

LostMySocks · 09/12/2024 20:38

Do you now have antibiotics?
I have rapid onset UTIs. Go from zero to rolling on the floor in agony and weeing blood in 4 hours.
But once I have antibiotics I recover at a similar rate down to just low level pain. My doctor now gives me a prescription to hold just in case I need antibiotics.
Things that help are sitting in a warm bath and just weeing in the water and drinking lots of water.

Yes I do, managed to get to the pharmacy to get nitrofurantoin. Got the first dose in while I was still in the car!
Bless you, it's horrendous isn't it! How you describe it is exactly how it's been this time round for me. I used to get them regularly during pregnancy and soon after, but this one is something else on the pain level. I may have to see if I can get an emergency supply.

Apologies, I evidently can’t read. Didn’t realise you already had antibiotics. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
