Cycle mayhem - what’s going on?!

Hi lovely people of Mumsnet

Really need some advice as I’m driving myself up the wall with possibilities.

For context I am 27y/o female, no biological children. 5”7 and 11.10 stone. Generally very active, aim for a balanced diet. No medication. No underlying issues I’m aware of.

Since I was 17 my periods have been very regular. I knew exactly what was going on with my body at any time. I had a 28 day cycle and would bleed for 4 days. A medium flow and always felt very manageable.

Out of nowhere, my periods have changed significantly. My cycle is now anywhere between 35-41 days, severe PMS, very heavy unmanageable flow - enough to cancel plans if my period arrives on a day I’m busy. Ongoing for about 8 months now.

What could cause this? It’s driving me mad and becoming a concern that something more sinister is going on. Is it worth going to a GP? And if so, what am I supposed to say to get them to take me seriously?

I’ve spent a small fortune on pregnancy tests and all gave a negative result. Any advice welcome!

Do you have PCOS symptoms?

No PCOS symptoms that I know of. No new symptoms related to that.

Defo go to the GP

Could be low iron
Or low thyroid

Or other reasons.
