Awaiting colposcopy biopsy results

Ready4anything · 03/12/2024 15:51

Hi all,
I am currently waiting for my colposcopy biopsy results. I decided to ring today to see if they were back and they said that they are still being processed. So far it has been 4 weeks. They said they're currently looking at 6-8 weeks for results at the moment 😫.
Anyone else waiting? Did anyone else have results take so long? What was your outcome? Is it right to assume that no news yet is good news?
I am usually very chill every year but for some reason I am anxiously waiting this time!

TIA

I think all you do is assume no news is good news. But chase it up once a week. Not a colposcopy, but waiting for results, and I think if see something worrying you hear faster. But I also know my mums hospital never contacted her gp about a MRI. Pretty sure that's still on in tray somewhere to this day

Thank you for your reply. Yes that's my thoughts exactly I will assume all is well. I felt awful ringing today, I am usually so patient but it's been a long 4 weeks so far!
Ohh I hope the results that you are waiting for are all good for you 🤞 nothing worse than the wait.
Oh wow, that's awful! Surely they know people are anxious, they should handle things better.

I'd still keep chasing up, but just put a note in the diary and park it until then.

I had a scan on Thursday where they said a worrying comment to me so I kind of thought if they don't contact me within two working days and she saw something, it can't be urgent.

My mums mri I complained to pals about but mum still never got the results. A friend takes screens and she told me she can see concerns there and then so she flags the concerns up. My sister had a cyst and that got a phone call within 24 hours. Fingers crossed

Earlier this year I was the same, I rang at 4 weeks and they were back but consultant not seen. I read so much into how the girl sounded on the phone, convinced myself she was sympathetic because it was bad news. Got my results by post a week later, no abnormalities found ! It's so hard to be patient and not worry so I do really feel for you. Hopefully you won't be waiting too much longer x

I've had a few of these (😐) and I'm pretty sure it always takes six weeks to come back. It's horrible having to wait, but at the same time usually they can see at the colposcopy if it's something very severe, so I think that can be a calming thought depending on what you were told at the colp.

IncessantNameChanger great idea, think i will do this. I hope your scan comes back clear, such worrying times isn't it. Oh really, this is calming to know! Thank you! It gives some reassurance.

Schoolrunmum81 thank you! I hope I am not waiting too much longer too, it isn't very nice lol. It is so easy yo blow things out of proportion isn't it, unnecessarily it seems. So pleased that yours were all fine! I love to read these kinds of stories!

ammpersand believe it or not, I have yearly colposcopies and have done for the past 14 years, due to my history lol! Every year I am so calm and absolutely fine and forget about the resukts. No idea what is wrong with me this time. You may be right actually, apparently there was a lesion, i assume that's why I've gone into overdrive just waiting for that confirmation really. Considering I have them yearly I cannot think for the life of me how long they have taken previously lol. When i rang yesterday the resukts still weren't back as they were bastille being processed so I thought why are they still looking at them what have they seen 🤣 I'm obviously being dramatic and need to take a seat 🤦‍♀️.

Thank you for your input ladies. Hopefully I am not waiting much longer and I calm my backside down. (I'm not that bad really) it just sits at the back of your mind niggling away doesn't it.

Hi op, have you heard anything yet?

I had a colposcopy and hysteroscopy done yesterday. The doctor at the hospital said I would get the results within 2-4 weeks. It all started when I went to the GP 2 weeks ago with intimittent pelvic pain, spotting between periods, and she checked my cervix and said she could see redness at the bottom, a lesion and that it bled on contact. She then put me on the 4 week pathway. GP told me that my symptoms are classic endometriosis symptoms, but because they cross over that this is the procedure. I then looked at my NHS record on the app (big mistake), and saw "suspected gynaecological cancer, and "endometriosis?" in the notes. Dh said they have to put you on the pathway if even 0.1% chance it could be anything else, and that it is a tick box exercise to get you seen quickly. The doctor said my womb looked normal and my cervix looked normal apart from the red patch that was at the neck of the womb. She than took 4 biopsies. I then have an ultra sound scan days before Christmas, and a back up gynaecological appt in the new year.

It is bloody scary isn't it? All of my smears have been clear, my last one was only 7 month ago. It has all beena huge shock.
