Periods at 40 - Menopause questions.

Hi. My period was usually 5 days. These days it lasts 1-3 days and is light. Does this mean I'm starting the menopause.

What actually happens then?

I only know what I've read on here.

Thanks.

You can get changes to periods in peri menopause, mine became heavier and more frequent.
You don’t need to do anything about it, just read up about other symptoms so you are aware, and read up about HRT so you can decide if it’s something you want to try in the future or not.

I was 41 and my periods had become shorter and lighter.

(very light and lasting less than 48 hours)

I just thought great, this is good etc....

But I was very wrong and it was actually because I had a 10cm solid tumor cyst thing on 1 ovary and a selction of smaller cysts up to 4cm on the other.

I ended up having an emergancy oopherectomy after experiancing ovarian torsion (which i can confirm is off the scale in terms of pain, way worse than child birth), but they saved one of my ovarys, so I didn't go into surgical menopause

My periods were back to "normal" within about 3 months of my operation.

Having short light periods isnt always a good thing.

40 is a bit young, I would not assume it is peri and get it checked out.

I'm 43 and mine are weird now. Some of them are lighter and shorter. Then this month was 10 days .. a few days if very light, then my normal ish period for the rest.

I would say it could absolutely be peri. The balance app is quite good for tracking your period and symptoms
