Open myomectomy

Just after some stories or any advice really!
I had a fibroid found in my pregnancy in 2020, position meant i had to have a C section.

Periods this past year have been horrific - painful and awful flooding, and spotting between periods, and a lot of pain my side.

GP sent me for a scan and fibroid has grown loads, to over 10cm which sounds horrible. Gynae have suggested open myomectomy as it is too big for keyhole now, and other treatments unlikely to work.

Write up says my uterus presents as if I am 20 weeks pregnant

They have also prescribed hormone injections to put me in fake menopause before the op!

Feeling a bit blue at the thought of more major abdo surgery, I have a wild 3 year old which will be hard to parent (I have a DH so will be well looked after) and fake meno as well.

Anyone had similar? Have searched for past threads. Doubtful I will have another sprog but not ready to say 100% no and have a hysterectomy.

Poor you ! I know the feeling, I had 24 week uterus and it is pretty miserable. I had a hysterectomy, after I had a ct scan a myomectomy was no longer an option as they couldn’t rule out cancer.

I think that you can have hrt along with the injections to help the chemical menopausal symptoms.

I think the recovery will be the same as open hysterectomy, 6 to 8 weeks.

Thank you @Slol for your feedback!
They are arranging an MRI scan beforehand too which I wasn't expecting. Very disconcerting to know there is such a big growth inside you, its a very odd feeling!
