Hi,

I'm 41 I still have periods but they are closer together and not for a full 5 days most of the time. I have suddenly started getting hot flushes (randomly after eating?!?) also crying for no reason. It's really odd. Sometimes it will just be watching something on tv, in conversation with family and friends. They will ask if I'm ok and I am I just can't help it I just feel overwhelmed and cry. It's so bizarre.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else feels like this. I do have a couple of health issues but have had those for years and they are unchanged. This is completely new and only happened the last few months. Feel like I can't really discuss it with anyone.

Hey! Sorry to hear you’re going through this. Whilst I’m not one of them, please know you are not alone.

Hormonal fluctuations can cause alterations to mood, and it is really common. Much like conditions such as PMDD, PMS, Pregnancy MH etc. Menopause, itself, can really affect people’s mental wellbeing. It is known that many women develop depressive episodes or other MH conditions during this time. Please seek support from a health provider. They might be able to run some blood work to help establish if it is perimenopause but they can also refer you to services to help with your mood; or suggest medication. If it’s an untoward and sudden change in your behaviour, there will definitely be a link somewhere. Sending you lots of positive vibes and support :)
