Hysterectomy with HRT but still horrible mood swings

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy two weeks ago. I was pleased to get it done. I'm 4 years post-menopause and had an established HRT routine before the surgery (Estrogel, estrogen patch, Utrogestan and testosterone cream). After discussing it with the Newson Clinic, I've kept taking the Utrogestan post-surgery with a plan to come off it once my physical recovery is further along.

The physical recovery has been great. No problems at all and almost back to normal, though still resting more. Emotionally has been another story. I thought that with the established HRT it would be a pretty smooth transition, but I'm a mess. Tearful, not sleeping, over anxious, irrational. After talking to the doc, I've increased my estrogen to see if it helps.

Anyone else experienced this? What helped? Feel like I'm losing my mind. Much worse than the peri and menopause symptoms I experienced years ago.

Hi OP. I am also on HRT and recently had prolapse surgery.

I experienced all the same symptoms as that after my surgery for about 4 weeks. I have put it down to severe anxiety ahead of the surgery and the after effects of quite a lot of propofol.

My mood started to lift at about 6 weeks post surgery.

Your issues might be anxiety that you have repressed without realising. I'm not an anxious person at all normally but this knocked me for six.

I also lost 2kg as I couldn't finish a single meal I felt so sick and worried, even though the surgery was a total success.

I'm bouncing around now, 12 weeks later.

I was incredibly emotional after my hysterectomy, very weepy, very anxious. It did reduce and (pretty much) completely disappear, but for several months I was a basket case emotionally. I just put it down to a very instantaneous change in hormone levels despite already being peri and then starting HRT.

Also had a full hysterectomy a year ago, experiencing all the symptoms you have and NO HRT allowed. Brutal doesn't come close!

Sorry for not replying sooner. Have been so low. Drove back from Manchester today and was literally howling with tears. Going through a divorce after 30 years of marriage, so I do have things to be upset about, but I can't seem to get a grip on my emotions. Feeling so so low.

Making a GP appt tomorrow. I got a different brand of estrogen patch last time due to shortages. I'm wondering if I'm not absorbing properly or something. Got to get some relief from feeling like this.
