Cervical Cancer (I'm scared)

I've been having pain during sex and bleeding for a few months.

I went to the doctor today and she thinks it's Cervical Ectropion but has ordered a smear.

She said it looked red and inflamed. She also said if it's cancer she'd be able to see it if it was in the later stages. I've got to wait till next week for my smear. And she said even ifs it negative she will send me to the hospital for further tests.

I'm so scared I've got cancer. My Grandmother also had cervical cancer 😢

If anyone has any reassurance. They would be brilliant.

Has she not referred you for a colposcopy? A smear is for screening, not for diagnosis.

WineLover21 · 23/10/2024 12:30

No, she said I need a smear first and if there's changes they will refer me. If there's no changes on the smear, she's going to refer me for one. But apparently the smear is the first step?

Morning! Sorry to hear that. Where are you at with this?

The GP sent me for a smear, which I was declined because it wasn't out of date. Then another week went by and I've got a telephone appointment, in April at 3am!!!! Clearly an admin error but it's all a bit of a shambles.

What if I have cancer? And I have to wait until April 😔

@WineLover21 April?! Omgosh that's such a worrying time frame for you!!

I've been having the same bleeding and pain during sex and lots of pelvic and back pain throughout the last six months .
I wasn't too worried as I had a clear smear in 2023.
However when I went to the GP Wednesday she did an exam and said the cervix is red and inflamed and looks abnormal whatever that means! (STI already ruled out)
She did a urine sample and swabs which she has sent off to the lab and also booked me back into the surgery for full bloods and then a follow up.

She's sent off a Gynacology referral and for a pelvic ultrasound but didn't give me an indication of when these might be , so I may well be waiting a while too.

Both my mam and nan had full hysterectomies due to CC and my sister has also had a removal for cancerous cells.

I'm extremely worried due to the family history but trying to tell my self it absolutely cannot be CC because all my smears have been clear.

Have been reading about things like Endometriosis and praying it's something more along those lines - for both of us xx

Hello ladies, I wonder whether you heard back and have had some follow up appointments? Worrying time and something similar here. I truly hope you got good results.
