Heavy painful periods since having children

I had my second child two years ago and all my periods since then have been very heavy and very painful. Painkillers have not been overly effective. It’s also very painful when I ovulate which I never had before my second child.

I am considering going to the GP but a lot of the information online suggests I will be offered a contraceptive pill/coil. I’m really hesitant to use hormonal contraception due to previous experiences with side effects. I was just wondering if anyone has found anything else that has been effective in either reducing the heaviness and/or the pain? Either over the counter or prescription that I could ask the GP for.

Thanks in advance!
