Mirena/coil insertion

Hi!
I am having a mirena inserted tomorrow and I am feeling so nervous. All I've seen are horror stories and it's put so much fear into me! I have had the coil before but was under GA when it was inserted so unaware of the pain. I got told to take paracetamol, to eat a lot before and to not drive afterwards so it's clearly not a good experience!
Anyone able to share so light on their experiences please?
Good, bad, honest reviews!! SmileConfused

Honestly, I may be a lone voice here but mine was absolutely fine. Hurt roughly as much as smear and I find them mostly ok. (All 3 fitted after I'd become a mother via c section, no idea if that makes a difference)

Had mine inserted a few months back. Took 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen before hand and it was actually ok. The sensation is like a dull pinching and it didn't last more than 20-30 seconds. I definitely had no problems driving or any pain once it was over. Have had three vaginal births though so my cervix has had some stretching. Good luck - you'll be fine

I know that you'll hear a lot of negative stories- but I've had about 6 in and out over the years, maybe I've been lucky but the most I've had was some bleeding after (light) and maybe a period like tummy ache for a short while.
It has been worth the lack of periods for 25+ years!
Good Luck

I took a paracetamol before, was fine to drive and went straight back to work. It was a few seconds of discomfort, no worse than a smear. Try not to worry, it will likely be absolutely fine.

1st one fine. 2nd one so horrendous they sent me for scans as I was still in pain 2 weeks it settled down though. 3rd I went for a Jaydess which is smaller and had no issues

My uterus got scraped. Was horrendous. Ended up in resus the next day where I work where they thought it had been perforated.
I am glad to see the positive stories, because even as a medical professional, I’m seriously considering just leaving it in there until it falls out!
