I had the results to my smear test and was shocked to be told I had high risk hpv. I have always had clear results. She said not to worry and should clear on its own and will need anothe smear test in a years time. I am worried as it is high risk and I do struggle with general/health anxiety. Inhave been very rundown lately with my mum passing away last year and house move. On top of all that being a single mum in general to 5 kids. One with anxiety etc that doesn’t let me sleep. She said my immune system maybe low and triggered the virus to flare up at the time of test . I guess I am glad that no abnormal cells were detected but it’s the works high risj that really have worried me .

This is soooooo common
Please don't worry
They will monitor it and treat it if and when necessary
I bet you know loads of women who have had this result at some point

Not sure how to reply on this. Thank you. Yes my mum had the abnormal cells when she was on her 30s but the tests for hpv wasn’t available back then. I think the words high risk have freaked me out.

Honestly OP don’t worry about it, 80% of adults have HPV at some point, your body typically gets rid of it by itself within 2 years. I had my smear a few months ago and was positive for HPV and abnormal cells, was referred to Colposcopy 2 weeks ago and had that which confirmed pre-cancerous cells, even despite that though it is being left for 12 months to give my body a chance to get rid of these by themselves. I’m not at all worried because as the consultant said nothing develops overnight, it takes 10-15 years, he told me they never worry about the women who go for their tests because no matter what the result it’s in time to treat, they worry about those who never go for their tests because then by the time they do it can be too late. Try to just put this out of your mind, HPV is extremely common and no abnormal cells is good. Just forget about it until your next check x

Awww thank you . I think it’s because the words high risk made me feel I am likely to get cancer . Like you have both said I can have it monitored 😊
