I have 2 coils in place!

So I went to have my coil replaced a few weeks ago. I was bricking it and just focusing on my breathing and getting through it. When the gynae doctor had finished, she went to her computer and said ‘oh, it says you already have a coil in place!’ I was ‘errr, yes, we discussed this at the last appointment!!’

So at an unrelated appointment this week - ultrasound on my pelvis - it turns out I do have 2 coils in now!! Still have to wait and have another gynae scan, but what are they going to do?! The gynae doctor who put the new one in mentioned something about general anaesthetic to have them both taken out! 😮 Just my luck! Am I double-covered or do they cancel each other out?! Last thing I need is an extra baby 😩

Tbh I wouldn't be having sex until they are sorted out.

I had one in. The strings were not visible. The doctor put the second one in. Realised, took the new one out and then eventually grabbed the strings once she found them and pulled the original one out. Then she put a new one in. So maybe the strings just weren't visible? Could they try and remove them normally first

Is it a mirena/hormonal coil or a copper coil?

Star8181 · 16/09/2024 19:30

@WolfFoxHare its a mirena coil - does it make a difference? Do you think I’m still covered by the hormones?

I initially thought you’d have double the amount of hormones, which might not be great for you, but presumably the old mirena was ‘running out’ if you’d gone to have it replaced? I don’t think they’d cancel each out!
