Vulva issues

Hoping for some tips/advice on a minor health issue. I've been suffering with an itchy vulva for a few weeks and while I don't think it's anything serious it's a bit annoying.

I'm 99% sure it's not an STD as I've only had sex once in the last 12-18 months and we used a condom
No unusual odour or discharge
No pain when urinating
No other symptoms
No change of washing powder or soap

I know I'm going to get lots of replies suggesting it's menopause related, but I had my ovaries removed several decades ago and have been on HRT since then. This has not been changed.

Any thoughts?

Thrush? Or threadworms? Hard to say as could be many things tbh. Is it all the time, or only e.g. in the evening?

I don't think either of those fit. Thrush causes discharge and threadworms cause itching of the anus, not vulva.

It's sporadic. No particular time.

Sounds like thrush OP, you could try the Canesten pessary and cream

Overtheatlantic · 07/09/2024 14:46

Could you have type 2 diabetes?

GoodieMcTwoshoes · 07/09/2024 14:48

I had thrush or something for ages and didn't have an obvious discharge. You don't have to have all the symptoms to have it. But if you're not sure you can see a doctor and they can test for it/ anything else.

Or have you used any new soaps or other products down there? Could be an allergy. I just use E45 and water there, it doesn't like anything else.

Look up Bartholin cyst -I get them -v itchy - but disappear after a week or so. I’m 71.

As I said, no discharge. Also no soreness, and no pain when urinating.

Actually threadworms can cause itching of the vulva. It would at least be an easy one to rule out.

Could you have type 2 diabetes?

No, I don't think so. None of the other symptoms, no diabetes in family.

Possibly worth checking then. No new products.

I've had thrush with no discharge and no symptoms other than itching. And as pp said, thread worms cause itching of the vulva as they travel..

FortunaMajor · 07/09/2024 16:49

Have a look at

Lichen Simplex
Lichen Planus
Lichen Sclerosis

Might not be any, but worth checking symptoms to see if any fit.

AnnaMagnani · 07/09/2024 16:51

I know you said no menopause related answers but does your HRT include vaginal oestrogen?

Thrush presents in different ways and doesn't always cause discharge- my only symptom was just what you describe. The itchiness can come and go. GP visit, I think.

tapdancingmum · 07/09/2024 17:06

I have this and was finally diagnosed with Lichen Schlerosis after months of being treated for thrush.
Please press your doctor to send you to a gynaecologist for confirmation as I have been in pain for years.
