So been with partner for over 25 years and we’ve only slept with each other but GP & sexual health clinic have said I have what looks like genital herpes (just waiting for official test results). Has anyone else caught it in similar circumstances? Hubby is now doubting me but I can honestly say I have never cheated.

also please tell me that the pain does goes away.

Does he get cold sores? You can pass on herpes through oral sex if he does suffer from them

CopKiller · 03/09/2024 13:59

I'd wait for the test results. A friend of mine was told it looked like she had it by a GP who specialises in gynaecological issues.

She was absolutely bricking it, but it turned out it wasn't herpes. I can't remember what it was in the end, sorry! But I do remember she got very stressed out and upset thinking she had it and was quite annoyed that the GP had been so convincing that it must be herpes.

No, doesn’t suffer with them but clinic said this could have been the way it was passed

Thanks, this is helpful to know. The couple of weeks wait for the results is a killer

I bet. I remember my friend being in a state of panic for ages.

I'm so sorry I can't remember what it turned out to be. I'd message her to ask but I don't think she wants to be reminded! It might have been impetigo from shaving but I'm not sure.

I usually hate people who make the suggestion, as it's often jumped on as the most likely reason... are you sure he's been faithful?

Really though, it's such an easy thing to get and pass on, chances are it was a symptomless form of oral on him, probably mistaken for a chapped lip...

GildedRage · 03/09/2024 14:51

My ds was told genital herpes was awaiting swab results. At 20 was deeply upset, the Dr. suggested he developed it from contact sports/gym mat….idiot ideas
He had developed Steven Johnson syndrome from a newly prescribed anti-inflammatory.

Many will say I’m stupid to, but I do believe him. After work (50% WFH), kids clubs etc we don’t spend much time apart and he hasn’t even been out with his friends alone for months.

@Painfullife

im sorry you're going through this nightmare.

one of the problems is that it can lay dormant for years & as it's so transmissible it could have been some unimportant contact before you met each other!

TRY to be kind to each other.

LadyGabriella · 03/09/2024 18:03

There are so many types of heroes virus. It could have just been passed from something as simple as one of you having a cold sore unknowingly. I wouldn’t jump to cheating here.

LadyGabriella · 03/09/2024 18:04

*herpes. HSV1, 2,

I may be wrong but if this was the case wouldn’t one of them be aware that they’ve had it before? I thought the first time of have it was normally quite bad? Or is it possible to have a case of it and not realise?

Doctor advised that the virus can lay dormant for years with no symptoms but don’t think this is the case with me.

@CormorantStrikesBack

I dont have personal experience or medical background if any kind, but from what I've read it it's possible to just be a carrier & never experience an 'outbreak' yourself.

Femme2804 · 04/09/2024 00:11

I have herpes and its dormant for 15 years!! I didn’t know i had it. Until one day i got my first flare up. My husband also get check and he is negative. Apparently gynaecologist said it can dormant so many years and suddenly flare up.

HallidayJones6779 · 14/01/2025 20:38

@Painfullife - did you get to the bottom of this? I hope everything worked out well
