Zoldex for endo

Hi, I’ve been told by consultant I should go on zoladex for endo. I had surgery a few years ago and of course the endo comes back. I’ve had four kids and will be 40 next year so the consultant thinks a hysterectomy. I think I might have a fibroid also as I’m in pain most days and the other symptoms for both conditions. I would like to hear how people got on with zoladex prior to surgery. I’m nervous my job is quite ‘thinky’ and I’m worried about how I’ll manage with menopause symptoms. I don’t want to stop being able to concentrate or find myself feeling really emotional! Any thoughts or experiences really welcome!

ps to complicate matters I moved area after the consultant said all this so need to re enter the gynae system!

I had it for six months and I was fine on it. It didn’t impact me v much at all. The only symptoms other than not having periods was never having bo 😂 as well as better regulated moods. I guess if I had been on it longer I might have noticed my sex drive wane etc.

Thank you, and did you have surgery after?

Sorry to hijack this but wanted to ask a bit more about this as I am late 30s and also had this recommended for me. Did you take HRT alongside it? Thank you

I went on zoladex for fibroids and it destroyed my genitals. I lost all the fat and padding and the skin went a really dull almost grey colour within 2-3 months ( I was 40). I got some internal oestrogen cream to help but honestly I've never been able to have an orgasm the same again. It's literally like pressing the devils doorbell and I get an electric shock with any direct clitoral contact. The hot fishes and brain fog were horrendous. I remember being at my wits end with 18 weeks of awful heavy bleeding the day I went into the gynos office and he had this big grin and assured me it would be fine and I trusted him. I didn't finish the course of 6 monthly implants. I gave up at month 4 and went into hrt.

But. My best friend has terrible endo. She said zoladex has been life changing for her and it's the best thing she's ever done. She's been on it for several years.

No I didn’t take HRT as it was recommended as a short term thing for only six months. It was after surgery, not before.

The most difficult thing about it was the admin. I was sent the injections but could not inject myself and had to book appointments with the gp of nurse. All the explaining and getting appointments for the right dates was tricky at first but I got into a rhythm and then it was fine.

I didn't have Zoladex, just a hysterectomy & my remaining ovary out, no further problems with endometriosis & started on HRT a month afterwards.

I had zoladex post breast cancer treatment. Didn’t have chemo, but the thought wasthat zoladex
gives some of the benefits of chemo. The main problem for me was weight gain. Apart from that,it was fine.

spikeandbuffy24 · 03/09/2024 13:01

Lurking as it's been recommended for me before excision surgery to shrink the endo

Oddgirlout · 03/09/2024 15:38

Thanks everyone! @redtrain123 weightgain is a bit of a shame! I’m not too keen on that!

I was in zoladex for 6 months after endo op. It took away my joie de vivre and ability to exercise, I was very down mood wise on it
