Mumsnetters please help me before I go fully insane.

I’ve had what I’ve thought was Thrush on and off for 9 months. It always comes 2/3 days before a period is due (so hormonal?) and then will only go (historically) with a dose of fluconazole and a canestan pessary. I’ve been to the Dr with this latest bout, and left it untreated as I wanted to know exactly what was going on. They’ve done a high vaginal swab - she said “oh wow that’s a lot of discharge” but the discharge isn’t thick and cottage cheese like in texture. It’s more whitish and runny? But a lot of it. I’ve got intense itching that goes from my clitoris through my labia and I throb, the stinging is horrible. I’ve been like this for 2 weeks now and just bit the bullet and took a fluconazole and used a pessary.

I should say I’ve got bladder prolapse from a horrific birth which resulted in a 3B tear into my spinchter, so my lady bits are already ugly as anything. I use oestrogen cream for the prolapse and a vaginal moisturiser already, I know it’s not due to atrophy or dryness. We’re trying to conceive for DC2, so fluconazole isn’t a long term option for me. The GP has prescribed me 6 months of canestan pessaries one to take each week. I’m already at my wits end and the pain is unreal. I’ve been to the GP 3 times about this now. I know I need to wait for my swab to come back. But how can I treat this for good? I take probiotics, I’m being tested for diabetes, and I do all the standard practice (cotton undies, PH balanced wash etc). Please help one frustrated Mum.

How old are you? Could the reinfection be due to perimenopausal vaginal atrophy? Or could your partner be reinfecting you?

33, not having sex at the minute because of it so it’s not my partner. It’s not atrophy as I use a vaginal moisturiser. I’m also using oestrogen cream for prolapse but I’m going to stop that for a while to see if that’s linked at all. I don’t think it is though as I’ve had thrush long before using oestrogen creams. The only thing I can think of is my third degree tear from birth and prolapse are causing it to keep reappearing.

Switch your wash, I had an issue that was similar and the gynaecologist said to use dermol 500 lotion to wash with and diprobase ointment to moisturise with, using it inside if necessary.

cut all sugar out of your diet if it is thrush (it wasn’t for me).

Did you get sorted OP ….just wondering as my friend had thrush but her strain was Candida glabrata so needed different meds than flucanazole.
hope you better now

Swabs confirmed it as Albicans and I’m on a 6 month course of clotrimazole ☹️

I get thrush if I use any soap at all on the area, even those PH balanced ones supposedly for that purpose. I have to use water only or an emollient for eczema sufferers to wash with.

Once this bout has cleared up, try eliminating soap.

Thank you, I’ve also stopped all soaps now, even the PH balanced ones, I’ve seen in the ingredients they have glycerin in them which is a type of sugar I think? So hoping that helps too. I’m about 6 weeks into the 6 month course… so frustrating but hoping this goes! Thank you for replying.
