Bleeding after smear

Hoping someone here can help. Had smear on Wed, bit of light spotting as normal on wed and Thurs. Today (Saturday) I have a bit of pink discharge, could be the start of a period, hard to tell as I am peri menopausal. If you had bleeding that you needed to worry about would it be heavy bleeding straight after the smear test?

Why would you need to worry about bleeding after a smear? I’m confused.

If you have any unexplained and serious bleeding I would seek medical advice but I seriously doubt a smear would cause a huge amount.

I think it is normal to get some bleeding or pink discharge after a smear as they are lightly scraping the cervix. My last smear was close to the start of my period and the nurse said some blood was "disturbed" during the smear so to expect some bleeding - perhaps you have a period coming soon. I would only worry about it if you are bleeding profusely or it carries on for longer than a week, but in your case it sounds like it's stopping so I wouldn't be concerned
