AMH results - don't understand :(

Hi people,

I decided to test my AMH last month with the at home Randox test after a recent miscarriage. It came back as 32.4 which I was super happy with. I'm 28 years old.

I re-tested this week as I've just got my period back and it came back as 21.4?? In a month!!!

I don't understand this as it's dropped so significantly within just 1 month and doesn't seem right. I'm now left super anxious 😔😔😔

Can anyone advise on why this might be?

@Spinkyttc AMH can fluctuate depending on where you are in your cycle. Did you do it the same time on both cycles?

It's hard to say as last month id had a miscarriage. I tested around 3 weeks post miscarriage last month, and the most recent I tested on day 3 of my cycle, however it's my first cycle since the miscarriage. It doesn't make sense to me how the number can range so much it seems wrong

I wish I'd never done it as it's made me feel anxious and horrible, and that I need to retest because I don't feel its reliable at all

I will also just say that 21 is still a good number for 28years, try not to worry too much. Mine was 43 back in August last year but I haven't tested again, I do have PCO though so high amount of follicles.

Was the Randox test a finger prick?

Sorry about your loss x

Yes it was. I do remember when I did the most recent test I had some issues getting enough blood to fill the vial, so I'm wondering if I damaged the sample as I was taking so long and pressing quite hard. I just don't understand the result and it's left me feeling very worried. I want to have a proper scan where they count your follicles but was wanting to wait a few months to let my hormones settle x

@Spinkyttc I don't think those scans give an indication on your fertility status/AMH. They'll just see how many follicles are in your ovaries (I have around 20 each side). Maybe see if you can get an AMH test done via blood test in your arm?

Oh really? I read that AFC is a better indicator of your ovarian reserve than AMH!

Yes, antral follicle count (AFC) is a direct indicator of ovarian reserve. AFC is the number of developing follicles in both ovaries, and it's measured using a vaginal ultrasound scan. The scan counts the number of egg-containing follicles directly, rather than relying on hormone levels to determine the than relying on hormone levels to determine the number of eggs.

This is from google xx
