The only cure is a hysterectomy.

I suffered with this and ended up on northisterone daily and then had hysterectomy - but kept my ovaries.

I don't think people understand how consuming it is

Clueless2024 · 08/08/2024 18:09

I have it, apparently. I had no idea, discovered by accident after a miscarriage (but explains alot). From my limited knowledge, tissue grows into the muscle... its very, very painful.

Can't comment on the spotting - may be caused by Mirena??? Anyway, no useful advice, just solidarity.

I had it no idea. Incidental finding on a scan. Wouldn't know I had it if I hadn't been told

Had years of horrific bleeding and pain. Always told it was “ normal” - went to gynae and he saw how horrendous the bleeding was and booked me for a hysterectomy there and then! 8 weeks later I had surgery and have never looked back. No symptoms since and no pain 😬 I was 34 when I had the hysterectomy

No. I sometimes need a dose of paracetamol once at the start for mild cramps. No excessive bleeding either.

I was like you, life was absolutely miserable and I lived on heavy duty co-codamol and mefenamic acid because it was the only way the pain was dulled enough for me to function.

I had a hysterectomy last year at 45 and I've never looked back

@Oldfatandfrumpy honestly I am so tempted for one I did sign a consent form then changed my mind last week … I’m gona try the endo removal via keyhole if I’m still the same then ik have hysterectomy as I have endometriosis aswell if I’m still suffering at 35/37 I think I will or I may still want it next year I don’t know what I want anymore I rather be pain free than suffering like this

I did keep ovaries as although mine were declared < unprofessionally > shit …. My gynae felt on balance it was better to keep them and help balance the risk of osteoporosis and breast cancer if I recall.

They did take my tubes, uterus and cervix

DramaAlpaca · 08/08/2024 19:06

That sounds really horrible, all of you have my sympathy.

I have it too, but like @HowIrresponsible I have no symptoms and no pain, never did. It was picked up at a scan to check postmenopausal bleeding. Having a Mirena fixed the bleeding.

My gynaecologist asked if I'd had painful periods but I didn't, so the adenomyosis probably started after menopause. Anyway, the gynaecologist said it'll do no harm and we can leave it be.

You need to insist that your GP urgently refer you to a specialist.

I was finally diagnosed with Adenomyosis and endometriosis after decades of chronic pain and heavy periods. At 45 it was awful and I was constantly flooding and having horrible pain...

The consultant I was referred to first tried a Mirena coil and meds like Norethisterone but nothing worked so I had enough and pushed for a partial hysterectomy and finally got my life back!

I kept my ovaries and cervix. No complications and no more pain :).

Same here. No pain at all.
