Post menopausal on HRT bleeding now being fast tracked

As title says age late 50’s not had a period for sometime, been using HRT patches for sometime (no issues). Had some recent post menopausal bleeding now being fast tracked.

Had an ultrasound followed by two internal transvaginal scans and a polyp removed, then MRI, waiting to see Dr next week. Told I am still being fast tracked but doesn’t think its cancer. Something about cysts and fibroids on both ovaries. Feeling worried.

Don’t worry, it’s just protocol. Similar happened to me. Fast tracked for hysteroscopy and everything was fine.

Mollyplop999 · 26/07/2024 12:23

I had exactly the same experience last month OP. I had full bloods, scan and a biopsy. Absolutely no cancer . I understand that you are worried as I. I'm still bleeding on and off but I'm not bothered now I know I'm clear. Try not to worry, sending hugs.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork · 26/07/2024 12:58

Thanks both. Fortunately the bleeding only lasted a week but I had been using the patches for a few years and only had it that one time. Thankfully mine has stopped too.

@LoveSandbanks did you also have the internal scans and MRI then hysterectomy?

@Mollyplop999 glad you are no longer worried its the worry of waiting and not knowing.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork yes it is. I went to the gp on the Friday, and went on holiday on the Sunday. They rang me on Monday to go for the scan. It really took the edge off of the holiday as it was at the back of my mind constantly.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork · 27/07/2024 22:24

@Mollyplop999 how are you now. I started bleeding the night before we came home from holiday. Fortunately, it was a weekend break in the UK. Did an e consult Monday morning before heading home. Got a GP appointment that same day and have been fast tracked. I have been asked if I had any holidays booked and told not to book anything at the moment.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork I'm but I've bled for a couple of days again last week. Only light, but I'm going to go back to the gp and see if they can adjust the hrt. I came off it for 2 weeks but felt horrible, full of rage which isn't like me, so went back in it.
I'm pleased that they're not hanging about with you. From my first GP appointment to having the biopsy it was 2 weeks for me. They were brilliant.

Postmeno bleeding is an ongoing (worrying) nuisance for me at the mo.

Had 2 urgent referrals (both scary so can fully relate to your current experiences), a polyp diagnosed (but disappeared before it could be removed), coil fitted instead of oral progesterone and still bled. All biopsies cancer-negative (so far).

My advice is not to panic, and to request hysteroscopy under GA as it can be very painful (there's a whole thread just on this ).

I'm now on periodic transaecemic acid to try and stop the bleeding and it's finally started to subside and now just a tiny bit (but still daily).

The medics still seem a bit mystified. The urgent referrals are a good thing for you, even though scary. Shows that they are taking it seriously as they should. Hopefully you will get reassurance soon.

And don't be shy about pushing for more tests / explanations if you don't get answers from them.

@ooooohnoooooo take care.

I am back at the hospital today I assumed it was to fully discuss the MRI results and a way forward (as the Dr said she would see me two weeks after the MRI) but now I am not sure.

My first appointment at the hospital had an accompanying leaflet saying about two week rule and bringing someone with you to support you. So I took DH who spent most of his time waiting in a busy waiting area whilst I had an ultrasound, Two transvaginal ultrasounds and a polyp removal. I received a call about this next appointment either just before or just after the MRI. Then a letter confirming the appointment it doesn’t mention what will be done or anything about bringing a supportive person with you. So just hoping its not an unscheduled Hysteroscopy. As I have been sore and felt a lot of pressure down there since I first visited my GP about the bleeding and the pressure and discomfort felt worse after the scans (and it still feels like that).

How are you now OP? Have you found about a bit more about what’s happening? It doesn’t seem to have been communicated very well.

I am back in hospital tomorrow for a biopsy using local anaesthetic as the process failed last week with no anaesthesic.

Julybuddy · 05/08/2024 21:23

Sorry to intrude..I have a Transvaginal scan next month. Does it hurt, similar to a smear test? My scans is at a local clinic, I assumed my GP booked me for a local hospital. Thanks.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork · 06/08/2024 16:31

I am ok thanks @Welshstaffy at least from ovarian side they found some polyps fibroids etc and will do a repeat pelvic MRI in 6 months. However, the MRI showed something wrong with my bowel so being referred to gastro.

No @Julybuddy it doesn’t really hurt just a little bit uncomfortable if that makes sense.

Sorry to hear this. I went through tests for bowel and tummy last year and now have this! I’m glad they spotted it for you as I sometimes get the feeling that consultants only stick with their specialist areas.

My biopsy failed again last week as they can’t get past the cervix so I’m off to the hospital in a minute for a pre op as it’s going to have to be done under GA - great!

sending you best wishes and update us if you feel able.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork · 07/08/2024 01:01

@Welshstaffy hope it went ok and you are feeling ok in yourself? Did they identify what was wrong with your stomach and bowels? i will try and put mine to the back of my mind until i get another appointment. The DC are home from Uni its hard work but want to enjoy them.

Morning, my pre op went Ok until the point the nurse said that I was having a GA because I couldn’t tolerate the previous attempts. Errr, excuse me! Both doctors couldn’t get through the cervix!! Every time I tell them that due to a misshaped uterus that historically procedures are very difficult and every time they look at me condescendingly as if to say they know better. So I corrected her and asked that this third different consultant be informed fully before this next attempt!

I have just found myself in this position due to a post meno bleed - like a proper period with a beginning , a middle and an end - no real other symptoms apart from a slight draggy feeling now and again. The scan showed slight thickening of the lining and a 7mm polyp so really tiny but these things need to be checked don’t they? Although I do feel like hiding away from it all!

Last years tests didn’t show much - a bit of inflammation, a small hernia, piles(!) some polyps but nothing of big concern. I think it may have been some kind of flare as after 4 months of going to the loo 6 times a day it settled down and now I just take a Buscopan now and again when I’m feeling crampy.

Try not to worry and have a nice summer with the DC and please do update here x
