Perimenopause palpitations and anxiety

Hi there,

I'm 42 and have been having palpitations on and off for a year now. Had ecg and a couple of a&e trips due to my heart pounding like mad and me not knowing what was going on but all came back fine. I'v never felt like this before. I have two boys aged 3 and 4 and have had every cold going since they started nursery so feel like my immunity maybe is low? Been having dizzy spells and awful anxiety spells. I practice mindfulness which is great, don't drink alcohol and exercise regularly. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as I just feel it's one thing after another lately and after some support. I'm due to have a 7 day holter monitor again soon but palps seem to have calmed so not sure they will find anything. Always feel on edge they will come back as it's an awful feeling. Just wondering if it's perimenopause, all symptoms seem to point to that. Any advice or wise words welcome Smile

Yep, wish someone had just been honest.

Got shoulder palpitations last Sept (said to be after effects from spine surgery) with a pulsating coming from the fibroid which I now understand was most likely peri.

Dragged through a colonoscopy which was the pits - again wholly linked to peri but no one bothered to read the hysteroscopy report available to them March 24. I would have had the upmost respect for someone waking me up 4th March this year with just a bit of honesty but not to be.

I had palpitations and thought they were the weirdest thing ever. Very disconcerting. I think they were the only symptom that went completely away and never came back once I started hrt. I was 44 or 45 when I first got them.

I agree, the palpitations are so disconcerting. Apparently they can be caused from anxiety but they cause anxiety as you are wondering when they will happen again. Vicious cycle or what! Confused And if ecg ok then nothing is to be done and just have to get on with it? Maybe Hrt is the way forward!

I've had anxiety ones before and these were just just happening out of nowhere when I felt completely fine. But they went away with low dose hrt and never came back. Lots of my other symptoms come and go and I've had my dose increased to deal with that, but the palpitations never came back.

Thanks @Apileofballyhoo that's really helpful. I know, I've had them out of nowhere when I don't even feel anxious. And then have nothing when I am feeling anxious! Makes no sense. I will definitely speak to the gp about hrt on a low dose like you had. Us women suffer so much don't we! I never realised all these negative side effects of the perimenopause/menopause before 😵‍💫

I didn't either, I just thought I was getting older (mid 40s!) and put joint pain, fatigue and my skin/face sagging down to that!
