Is this what a UTI is really like or do I need urgent help??

I will start by saying I'm not a complete stranger to UTIs. At all. This is a whole new fucking ball game.

Had sex with a newish partner on Saturday and Sunday morning. Both of us hygienic.

Today I woke up as normal with no problems. By 10 I noticed I was having the urge alot more frequent and blamed it on the cup of tea. At 11 I realised this was a UTI as it was starting to tingle and walked up to the pharmacy half an hour later to pick up some Cystopurin. Around 1230 I go wee and it hurts majorly and there's blood.

This has now progressed to passing clots and the pain is something else. I'm also getting alot of pressure in the rectum like no one's business and have resorted to dripping warm water as I pee for some relief.

I've asked for an urgent GP appt and they've given me a telephone appointment this afternoon. My temp is normal, so far. No back pain.

I've never had a UTI where I've passed blood let alone clots.

Is this what a UTI is usually like or have I picked up the mother of all E coli?

i’ve never passed a clot with a UTI personally. and i wouldn’t expect it to come on that quick either

Scrubdowned1 · 22/07/2024 15:08

That doesnt sound like normal uti.
Perhaps its up in your kidneys?
Try to make sure you are drinking as dehydration wont help (but not sure if thats good advice if its akready affecting higher up!!?

bouncybouncingboobies · 22/07/2024 16:24

Not normal at all.

MissMoneyFairy · 22/07/2024 16:27

How big are the clots, have you irritated yourself, is it definitely wee. I'd go to the doctor ASAP or at least call 111, can you get a urine sample.

BiscuityBoyle · 22/07/2024 16:29

I passed blood once before. I was very young and hadn’t had sex. I think now I would have gone to the doctor earlier but I was only 14 and didn’t know what was going on.

Mmr224 · 22/07/2024 16:33

That doesn't sound normal for a UTI and would be pretty bad for a kidney infection. I would definitely try to catch a sample in a clean container. I'd also be calling GP back because of the bleeding and if not able to get an appointment to be actually seen rather than a phone call, I'd be trying a walk in centre or minor injuries etc where they can dip the urine, do some tests.

Somerandomgirl · 22/07/2024 20:11

Omg have u been seen, what did the gp say?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 22/07/2024 20:38

In hospital having IV antibiotics. Temp catheter in with sample sent to lab.

They didn't take me seriously until I pissed myself in front of the triage nurse and she saw a small clot in my knickers getting out of them.

Apparently it's not unheard of for UTIs to get this bad this fast. Usually in the elderly. I'm 34 😬

Sorry to hear of this op it sounds absolutely horrible. I only hope he was amazing in bed which would make it all worth it

solice84 · 22/07/2024 21:04

UTI's are the worse
I've never had one come on that quickly but I've had them before where I've thought I've managed to flush it out only to come back with a revenge out of nowhere with the sudden agony and pissing blood

He absolutely was 🙂

I've told him about it and he's driving 2 hours overnight to come look after me.

Yeah. I think he's a keeper.

I used to get them this quick and would usually be weeing blood. It's horrific, - the feeling like you are about to wee all the time is the worst bit for me. I used to sit on the toilet for hours at a time, the only place I was semi comfortable.
Antibiotics are a god send. Get better soon.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 22/07/2024 21:14

@ToBeOrNotToBee you poor thing, I absolutely hate the uncomfortable feeling of a UTI. I hope you feel better soon. (As a side note, I'm slightly disappointed you didn't change you name to ToPeeOrNotToPee for this post)

I have passed blood with an UTI but clots don't sound right.
I've had one spread to my kidneys before but I had terrible back pain
