Abdominal support following hysterectomy

Hi

I am due to have a full hysterectomy in a few weeks time as I have a large fibroid and experience very heavy bleeding.

I've been looking at abdomen binders online, usually used after a c section to support the tummy as it heals after the surgery.

Has anyone used one following their hysterectomy and did it help to have your tummy supported in the days/weeks following the surgery?

Any advice welcome 😊

After them rummaging around in there to remove everything, I was personally too tender to have even contemplated something tight across my abdomen. I was in soft, stretchy joggers for the first week, and I feel I had an amazing recovery.
I hope it all goes smoothly, wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thank you for your reply and for your well wishes.

A friend told me that, after her hysterectomy, she held a cushion to her tummy for support for example when she needed to cough or when she got up from a seated position so it made me think I'd need something to help with that. What you've said though makes perfect sense about not wanting anything too tight across the area.

I had a hysterectomy for a large fibroid and I also can't imagine wanting anything tight around my tummy?
I needed support around my lower back whenever I was sat up in bed etc and had a small rectangular cushion for this.
Good luck op Flowers

I had an abdominal hysterectomy in Feb - no binder etc. My tummy was so bloated and swollen I can't imagine that would've been pleasant at all.

I did have a cushion or a blanket for when I coughed though. I had some complications and was back in and out of hospital a few times for a week or 2 after the op and also used rolled up jumpers or whatever to hold myself when I shuffled around.

One top tip from me I've just discovered - when the skin is healed etc., silicon gel to help the scar recover.
