HPV still and another colposcopy

Has anyone got experience of HPV not clearing up?

I had a smear in Jan 2022 and I was HPV + so had another smear in 2023 and was still HPV+ so referred for colposcopy. It showed CIN1 - nothing to worry about but smear again in a year.

I've just had my 2024 smear results back and I'm still HPV + so I've had it at least 2.5 years. I've been referred for another colposcopy. Last time I found this really painful so I'm dreading it.

Has anyone had HPV for a long time and referred for a second colposcopy? What was the outcome?

I have persistent HPV that won't budge at all. I haven't had abnormal cells recently so no referral yet touch wood I was very late for my smear too by 18months. but I did have abnormal cells 10years ago but no concerns after a biopsy.

It's so common
I know the leaflet says most people clear it within 2 years but I know so many people who haven't so clearly in a lot of cases it doesn't

I had the same, high risk HPV and CIN 1. Had yearly smears until it cleared.
Mine took maybe like 3/4 years to go, I think. but I’m negative now so it should sort itself out for you soon enough hopefully!

My body finally got rid of HPV, last year I had a normal routine smear and was negative. However, like you I had the colposcopy biopsy and was shown to have CIN 1 changes in early 2022.

My concern then was how do I know those CIN 1 changes have gone or are in the process of going just because my body has got rid of the HPV. With just a routine smear that only checks for HPV and not cell changes anymore. So i queried it with them, they just say your body 'should' get rid of the cells. Maybe I am a pessimist but how do CIN 2 and CIN 3 exist if most people get rid of CIN 1 changes on there own?!

So they offered me a colposcopy to put my mind at rest. I had this 3 weeks ago, it still showed changes because they took a biopsy. I am waiting on results.

Maybe some people manage to forget this is going on in your body, but I feel like it has been a constant worry since 2018/19 when I first tested positive for HPV.
