Perimenopause?

hby9628 · 11/07/2024 07:25

This week I've had a few symptoms & was wondering if anyone else had them

  1. When I sit down it feels heavy round my pelvis. Like I'm due on my period but I have a coil
  2. Tender boobs
  3. This is odd....like a fizzing feeling on the left of my vulva. This was intermittent but lasted about 36 hours.

I'm wondering if it's do to with my cycle/perimenopause. Also had a very a stressful week

I'm 45. Time to get checked out?
I've had the tender boobs & heavy feeling before but not for quite a while

The mirena coil doesn’t stop you having a cycle, it thins the lining of your womb and hopefully stops the bleeding, so you can still have period type symptoms.
Those symptoms wouldn’t particularly point to peri for me. There is a list of symptoms on line, see if you’ve got any they describe.

hby9628 · 11/07/2024 07:39

Ah okay. They do sound like cycle type symptoms which is annoying because prior to this I was on the pill & didn't have any symptoms.

I just found your thread and wanted to say I also get a strange tingling, burning sensation down below. It's not all the time but the gp said they can give you something to help it. I haven't tried anything yet. Also I get very heavy swollen boobs and my periods are getting worse, more painful and i have bad pmt. I have been advised to get a coil but I'm 52 and don't want one!

hby9628 · 11/07/2024 09:28

@BooseysMom that's interesting. It wasn't uncomfortable but it was distracting. Almost like it was pulsing & fizzy. It was odd.

I'm toying with getting a full health MOT done as every symptom I'm overthinking about when I'm sure it will be age/hormone related.

Thanks. Def worth booking a health check. The buzzing feeling is more like burning actually and then I get all-over body aches. Just endless shite!
Good luck

I’m 45 and think I’ve just entered it. Booked in with the GP for bloods.

Extremely heavy periods
I’ve been a raging lunatic the last week - completely unhinged 😫
Dry skin
Really dry vagina ☹️
Sweating a lot ( smelly BO)

Im actually rather sad about it.

I'm not surprised you are feeling sad about it.. it's a huge change in life and I feel utterly horrendous about it too. I just want it all to end but my DM said it can take 10 years!! 😮
I'm 52 and I don't know when I entered peri so have no idea when it will end. I have horrible periods which are still very regular, mood swings and aching all over. I actually feel like my body is morphing into someone else's..does that make sense? It's like I'm turning into my mum!!
I have tried various HRT regimes but found it doesn't help the symptoms I have so am trying to cope naturally.
I hope you get some answers and help.. keep us posted if you like.
Good luck.

I've booked in next week for a chat with the dr & to request blood tests. My boobs were so tender for 2 weeks. Awful.
I'm also in a bad eating cycle which is making me feel worse. I just need to get through my Dads funeral on fri & then start looking after myself properly.
It's all just meh at the moment.

Went to the docs today. She's referred me for bloods & a scan. She said the scan would take about 4/5 weeks to come through
2 hours later I got a call from our local hospital to say they've got loads of cancellations due to holidays & I've got an apt this afternoon for my scan. I know the NHS has lots of things wrong but when it works well it works very well. I'll be glad to get it done & hopefully get some peace of mind.

Oh that's great... And almost unheard of in the NHS!! I hope you get some answers. Keep us posted

hby9628 · 31/07/2024 08:35

I know. It was very efficient.
I was told all fine on the scan so just got to get my bloods done. Can't get an apt for that for 2 weeks though!

Just to say as is said a lot on the Menopause board, you can’t diagnose perimenopause via blood tests very successfully. Oestrogen levels rise and fall through the month and particularly in this phase of life. At 45 perimenopause (and prescribing of HRT) should be identified based on symptoms.

Not sure what they are testing for but a blood test is good for ruling out other specific issues such as low iron or thyroid issues.

Suzieandthemonkeyfeet · 31/07/2024 13:38

Hey, just thought I’d give an update.

Went to GP and she was fantastic. She deals with the majority of menopausal women at the clinic. She asked me what symptoms I had and asked if I can been tracking my periods. It was tracking them that she was more bothered about tbh. My periods had been going from a solid 28 day cycle to 32 - 36 day cycle and if not noticed 🙈

So she prescribed me the gell and the evening tablets with out having to do bloods. She has booked me in for an ultrasound scan as I do have endometriosis and apparently the hormones can make it worse - so just to keep an eye on it.

She gave me this link with loads of info on. I was in there for 30 mins - she was so good and we had a really long chat on that most women were prescribed anti depressants ( including the GP who owns the practice ) 🙈

She really was fantastic and fan girling when I came out. She was one month younger than me and was already on it. 🙈 45

hby9628 · 31/07/2024 17:46

@TheOGCCL oh really. I didn't know that about the blood test
I'm expecting I've got some kind of hormone imbalance
I've requested a smear too

@Suzieandthemonkeyfeet thanks for the link I'll have a good read through. I was impressed with my doctor too yesterday to be fair she's been quite thorough.

How's everyone getting on?
Bloods fine. Scan fine.
I've not had any spotting since. However today DH & I had sex for the first time in months. Sounds terrible I know but with bereavement/kids at home due to hols we've just not really been in the place for it. Anyway, went to the loo & there's spotting.
Obviously I've terrified myself slightly & booked another doc apt to try to push for a smear. However I've read a few threads on here that mention cervix erosion so could be that. Could be the fact we've not had sex for ages & it's just coincidence 🤷‍♀️
