Tailbone pain

Tiredallthetimeneedsleep · 08/07/2024 15:18

And what causes it. Have been ( imho wrongly diagnosed with Sciatica for years), and have recently started with tailbone pain which gets significantly worse mainly when I'm in my office cha)it ( sat down for up to an hour and try to walk around between appointments if I can). Any ideas whether it's age ,( 52f) related / back related , whether others have had it and if it went away and what can I use to help relieve/ reduce it.

Thanks

The beginning of a pilonidal cyst?

A seat cushion with a cutout at the back can help coccydynia, as supposedly can one of those weird kneeling chairs. Or maybe your employer would stretch to a chair designed for coccyx pain. But getting up and moving is really important too.

Working from home has made mine awful. I have a cushion with a cut out and support but it's now almost impossible for me to sit. I have a sit stand desk and have to stand all day at it.

###UPDATE###
Bought a new office chair.....only to realise that my pain exacerbates when I've been on my bike ( trying to get fitter! ).

Coccyx inflammation?

newusern9999 · 11/07/2024 23:36

I’ve had tail bone pain for the last 18 months. It is gradually getting better but it’s slow progress. I don’t notice it much any more though. I’ve no idea how I hurt it but it’s wonky

Hi Op, I too have this, also exacerbated by cycling, and also by the rowing erg.

You may find a change of saddle helpful. I've chosen one with a wider seat and a cutout where my coccyx sits.

The chair can be helped by having a cut out cushion. Something like a neck cushion doughnut but bigger with the cutout part where your coccyx sits. It's a common problem and can take around 6 months to a year to improve.
It's also worth getting some physio on it and doing the exercises.
