Hello, just had these results. I'm 42. Doctor has requested to talk to me but can only get a telephone appointment on 20th July. Can anyone explain what these mean? Am I entering an early menopause? Thank you! Xxxx

I believe (if my memory serves me right) that a level of 3 would indicate little or no egg production and can be a sign of peri menopause or an issue like pcos. Did you also have your AMH tested? Again, from memory, AMH was the more important number when dealing with fertility...(if that's why you've tested) and both sets of results should be looked at to get definitive answers as FSH alone doesn't give the bigger picture.

Thank you, it wasn't for fertility reasons, I've had my children, no more thanks! I had it due to odd periods, night sweats and tiredness! Is this a fairly usual result at my age? X

Ah, good, I was worried you were possibly on a fertility treatment journey and the results were disappointing. Not that peri-menopause is any better news. I'd say that's probably what's going on, what with the low FSH and your symptoms. And, at 42 it's relatively normal. although maybe a bit on the younger end of the spectrum. I think peri appears usually anywhere from 40-50. I'm 43 myself with low FSH but due to PCOS and I don't think peri is far off for me either. I hope the Dr is able to help you when you finally get to speak to them! x

Thank you. But you don't think it's anything for me to get in a tizz about? Xx

I genuinely don't think you have anything to worry about. Have a read at this to put your mind at ease. https://www.letsgetchecked.com/articles/what-are-the-symptoms-of-low-fsh-in-women/

When my levels came back low, the worst thing they checked for was a pituitary tumour and I was told these were incredibly rare and not sinister (you're not going to die if you had one.) I'd put money on it just being your ovaries have called it a day and stopped working. Please try not to let it worry between now and your appointment. You're going to be fine! x

You're very welcome. I know what it's like to spiral mentally when you start to worry about something medical. It's so easy to go to the worst case scenario when it's always something so simple and easy to treat. Let me know how you get on and i'll send some good vibes your way on the 20th! x

Oh I know, I am a terrible worrier - about many things but mainly health-related! Thank you for the good wishes ❤️ xxx
